Once Station Square reopens, then pedestrian connectivity will be restored (and like all construction sites, there will be inconvenience in the interim). As noted earlier in this thread, there are future plans to punch Silver Ave. through to Central Boulevard.

As for the existence of the alley, it's a necessary evil. Large complexes have a need for large scale centralized loading facilities (including garbage areas) that are akin to light industrial zones. Even downtown alleys are not pleasant places with smelly dumpsters, etc. The cost of undergrounding facilities could be prohibitive.

As for taking the most direct route - people will always do that - even if it's not the "best" way to do things.
That's why you always see cyclists riding on the sidewalks of one-way streets downtown (counterflow) - because they don't want to circle the block with a longer route on the street.
That's also why you have drivers (at UBC) driving down pedestrian paths and finding themselves stuck on staircases.

Yes, but at least it's not a spandrel mess. It's boring but it looks clean.

It does look clean. It also looks like basically every tower built in region. Every tower seems to have the same floor plate. It would be nice to see a building taper back as the tower rises. Instead of a point tower on a 1-2 storey base

(That fourth pic looks like it was taken in Coquitlam lol)

There is spandrel, but the colour choice is better than over at Sovereign and the glass may be a bit more reflective.

The cluster of fairly reflective towers may hold their own against the nearby MetroTower office towers.

The color choice of the spandrel is better here, and it doesn't have the Sovereign's obnoxious centre-pane mullions. If the renderings are correct, it also looks like the Kingsway streetscape will be the infinitely superior of the pair as well.

Even the original towers at Wall Centre have those eye-level (when seated on the sofa) mullions - it's surprising how many condos have them.

Haha, I would actually hate to lose my clean view of Mount Baker. However blocking the view of Baker would require 250 meter towers go up further east from the current towers. I think we are quite far from that scenario.

Have they started excavation of the second tower already? When should that start?

The ground breaking ceremony was in early October so excavation should be well underway by now. I might take a peek sometime today and confirm.

I'm pretty shocked at the presence phase I tower has on Kingsway, and the skyline. Being the shortest phase, the next phases are going to be absolutely beastly.

No excavation has started, there is still a big pile of dirt and junk on the old Save On slab.

The second phase should be breaking ground any day now. It will be 2 towers on one large podium. Both substantially taller than the first one.
