Right of Way Review has a draft document outlaying some of the components of the NWSS site overhaul:

Asides from the massive new stock show complex and the replacement of the Denver Coliseum the idea the historic stadium would be repurposed with such uses as a large public market per this bit of text:

The 1909 Stadium Arena was the first permanent structure built at the stock show and is a wonderful example of turn-of-the-century architecture in Denver. Its brick façade and large open arena give it a truly unique character that is worth preserving for future generations. The Master Plan calls for this building to take on a new role, one that can be used and enjoyed by the public through a new and active public market, a commercial/teaching kitchen that can be used by the community, and a multi-use events space in the main arena. This space will also be the center for entrepreneurial business and art at NWC and will included incubator business space, artist in residence, and retail uses for goods and services that support Western Heritage and agriculture. The plan calls for removing the stadium seating and adding a mezzanine level to increase the building capacity to approximately 90,000 SF. The CSU Colorado Urban Extension Center will also be located in this facility on a temporary basic until it can be permanently located in the new Exploritorium.

CSU appears to be setting up CSU Denver at the NWSS:

The new CSU Exploritorium facility will be the primary address of CSU on the NWC site. The multi-level facility will be approximately 50,000 SF with new educational facilities. This facility will provide a Farm-to-Table Restaurant, Colorado Urban Extension Center, business center, small scale research, ag innovation and STEM research, laboratory for teaching and research, health and wellness space, multi use classrooms and flex space, conference space, lecture hall, and space for a portion of the National Western Stock Show Heritage collection. This space can also be used for small events, art openings and exhibits.

^^ Not sure what their timing on this is but if they could get everything lined up by 2016 it would be great to ask for "Regional" approval with a tax similar to what was approved for the sports facilities.

Anybody got a good guess at the total price tag? $400 million maybe?

I'm thinking the hotel should be open by this time next year. Additionally the East Line should be down to Check Lists, landscaping and final touches.

The new DIA hotel is really cool from the Terminal side because it reflects the terminal canopy in its highly reflective glass, was checking it out over the weekend. I do wish it still had the white Caltrava cap on the hotel though, feels like its missing something to tie it in to the white canopy.

wow so DIA managed to figure out how to somewhat cover the platforms so that people will be protected from rain / snow...


but RTD at Union Station could not

According to the DBJ:

The portfolio includes US Bank Tower, Tabor Center and the adjacent Tabor Two development site. Ivanhoe Cambridge made the acquisition from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, which had held a stake in the portfolio since 2007.

Might I suggest this portends to that noted vacant lot becoming un-vacant?

I assume this is because it precipitates out in Kansas. But it never rains or snows in Denver.

I think the blue glass works, actually. It matched the office building and other airport structures on the other side of the canopy. I think a white top would actually detract from the canopies. This way, the focus is still the canopies. You know Calatrava only ever wanted to switch the focus to him, because that's what guys like him do. And the reflection is awesome.

I don't know why we are b!tching so much about canopies at DUS while praising DIA. In terms of platform coverage, they're about the same...

That colored concrete will most likely be ripped out once they redevelop Market Station. If it's anything like what we've heard it will be then new buildings/retail will line the sidewalk along 16th between Blake and Market. What is there now is temporary.

If you look at the photos you will actually see that the platforms at DIA are covered by a metal of some kind.

At Union Station there is absolutely no cover in the center platforms besides some bare bones white poles

There is covering over the Amtrak tracks.. I've checked it out during a rainstorm, it was effective enough. The ends of the canopy provide really good cover as well.

I think it's a non-issue.

$7 million is a steal, they sold for $8 million when they first were bought up.
