The recently vacated building at Agricola & May (formerly home to Discount Car & Truck Rental) has been sold to a developer. No plans have been finalized but it is possible for 40-60 units to be on the site. A Schedule 'Q'/Development Agreement could allow for more. Whatever becomes of the site hopefully it follows the current neighbourhood trend of removing automotive uses in favour of mid-rise residential and small-scale commercial space.

That's great news, I noticed they had a "For Lease" sign in the window and I was really hoping someone would buy it and just tear it down and replace it with something much better.

Inquired about buying that property a couple of years ago for a client and Taylor supposedly didn't want to sell at the time. Glad to see someone is finally going to do something with it. It is surprisingly large.

Just for reference this is the building that was recently sold on Agricola Street (photo by me today).

An application was submitted to HRM today to build 2 buildings (19fl & 6fl) at the corner of Windsor, Young, and Bayer's Rd.

The company that applied is certainly a reputable one (not sure if info is public yet so I'm holding the name back for now).

Is that the site at 6193 Young Street, south of the new Armoury at this location - https://www.google.ca/maps/place/6193+Yo...!1s0x4b5a2176c18199fb:0x1d55c9491cabbbe0? I remember reading that a gas station was proposed for that site and turned down and then another developer bought the site. The developers name was mentioned in a local story but I can't remember who it was or where the story was.

We had some renderings of this project a couple of years ago (they've since been removed) thanks to Eskitics.

IIRC the renderings looked nice and took the curved portion into account extremely well.

Yes that is the same site location that the application was applied on. It's too bad there weren't any renderings attached to what I saw - all I saw was a basic description of what was proposed and how much the application fee was.

I'm pretty sure this was the rendering that was originally released.

So is this an official proposal now?

According to sources the applicant is George (not Joe) Ramia.

A super-secret source disclosed some more details about the Dennis Building redevelopment. Apparently it will be completed in four years, so it will need to get underway reasonably soon. It's going to be 160,000 square feet and the goal is to incorporate the existing facade.

If it's done well it could be an enormous improvement for that area. In addition to filling in the ugly parking lot it will have underground parking, so the northern part of the Province House grounds can be restored as public space.

Mmm. Any sense of whether 'incorporate' means tossing the old stones around a glass tower, or doing a proper rebuild?

What do you mean by "a proper rebuild"? If you are looking for an as-is resto complete with 8 foot ceiling heights, I suspect the answer is no.

First, Keith, the building's average floor to ceiling height is about 10 feet.

Secondly, I just mean rebuilding the facade as is so that it replicates the appearance from the exterior. I don't care what they do with the interior. Minister Kousoulis himself suggested that part of the rebuild would involve the engineering/architectural challenge of recreating the building's facade while integrating taller ceiling heights.

I would prefer to see it doubled in size, it looks great!

Beats the hell out of the Petro-Can that was going to be built there years ago. Also beats the hell out of an empty lot.

Any clues on this renovation on the corner of Agricola and Ontario Streets?
