I heard that a Starbucks will soon be opening post-security at the airport. Anyone know if the restaurant and lounge is set to open soon? I thought it was to be called John D's, or something.

I would love to see some interior pics of the progress at the airport. I won't be there to see it myself until December.

Details from report:
- Commercial/residential tower at 105 m (new tallest and first building to break 100 m in SK)
- Commercial/office tower at 87 m (2nd new tallest)
- Approximately 800 parking stalls, including public parking

I see in the first rendering there's a proposed overhead link to the BHP Billiton building. Perhaps the proposed office tower is earmarked for BHP office expansion.

Are colour blocks a reference to the 2nd avenue lofts. Same things as the art work in front of the Canadian Light Source. If the trend continues that might become the signature feature of Saskatoon buildings.

It's great if this in fact comes to fruition, however I'm quite disappointed by the boring square design. When the developers said it was going to be Saskatchewan's most prominent building in height and design, I figured 90 degree angles would be replaced by curves and appealing cutting edge modern design.

Great looking buildings that will go a long way towards breaking up Saskatoon's brown, stone downtown. I'm a little paranoid that the developer might be biting off more than they can chew with two towers instead of one (a'la River Landing; wonder what effect this will have on them), but I'm optimistic!

And those parking stalls...

I think we should dedicate this one its own thread. This is quite large and unlike River Landing, these guys seem to have their ducks in a row. ALSO they are using AODBT a local architecture firm.

Already one up my bad... Carry on.

Finally something has been released to the public. I see a few changes but it looks good, looks pretty similar to what it was months ago. Future images and details released will be great to see.

Tell Mies van der Rohe square is boring haha...Curves don't always equal cutting edge. Look at Douglas Cardinal's new building on campus.

I actually kind of like Cardinal's building. It would be nice to see a rendering of the City Centre towers.

It’s almost Halloween, and this is a coincidence, but the City of Saskatoon is moving forward this week with new rules to prevent a scary “monster house” from popping up next door.

The new bylaw will apply to new home construction in older neighbourhoods.

Today, the city will host an open house to gather public feedback.

"These regulations are going to sort of create some modesty,” said Allan Wallace, the city’s director of planning and development.

The goal is to try and create rules to help new homes, going up in existing neighbourhoods, to as the city states “feel more compatible.” The rules will not be overly restrictive by dictating architectural and aesthetic decisions. But rather, ask builders to consider things like the overall size and height of a new home. Plus potential problems issues like drainage, sunlight, and where air conditioners are located. [...]

I see on the River Landing website that Parcel D/E will be tendered by the end of this year or early next year. I wonder what will come of that location as they also are looking for an approx. 25-storey mixed use complex. Would be a good location for a building of that size but who knows if the market demand will be there. Guess the price would have to be right.

Housing starts to hit 3,300 by year's end

Housing starts in the Saskatoon Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) are on pace to hit 3,300 units in 2014, up 11 per cent from 2,980 in 2013.

It has been such a long wait for city center details. Im stoked that they upped the height 31 stories now !!
I wish that there was more comment or commitment to a start date. I know the recent star pheonix article said something about the second tower waiting a few year which makes sense. But the renders almost seem like they need to be built together.

The Star Phoenix article also mentions 3 approvals meetings:

"The project will first go through two approval meetings: a planning committee meeting on Monday, and a municipal planning commission meeting on Tuesday.

The project will then go before city council for approval on Nov. 24, confirmed development review section manager Darryl Dawson."

So I'd expect an announcement soon after it passes through these approvals.
