I'll have to break from the pack on this one and say that the Holiday Inn doesn't look half bad. The worst that you can say about it is that it is a little bland, but that's in keeping with the chain itself.

New rendering of Qualex Landmark's next Calgary project, Park Point.

Park Point One by LUMIN8, on Flickr

Note: This is a two-tower project, with the southern 35 storey tower being phase 1 and the northern 27 storey tower being phase 2.

It's the builders of these hotels that pass off this junk and the hotel brands for settling on it. The safe bet would be Chamberlain over Kirkor. They design a lot more of these.

No, this is by the same firm that did Le V/Marriott Courtyard, Architex Group. What gives it away is the generic buildings in the background of the render; they use the same place holder in other project's renders.

Nice height for the area. Still it'd be nice to see a few 45-50 floor buildings in this area... besides Guardian that is!

If that holiday inn was proposed in Hamilton or Halifax people would be saying what a great proposal it is!

The more I look at it, the more I find it quite acceptable. I like the curtain wall, which in itself puts it above the majority of condo towers. And the absence of protuberant balconies that deface so many projects.

It could end up looking nicer in real life than in the render.

Nah, it's well below Halifax standards. Hamilton would just be happy to see a parking lot filled in though.

This is quite high standards for a Holiday inn. In fact of all the Holiday inns Montreal has had, this one will be by far the nicest. I doubt Hamilton or halifax would get an equally nice one. Although the way things are going in Halifax these days, it's possible they would get a matching design.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that the Holiday Inn is a good infill project. Infill. That's what it is. Probably will be they height of Le 400 (Hilton garden inn), so like 115m or so.

The other day I was looking at a paper that said that they were going to build a new 37 floor Maritime plaza hotel, and condos on the same site?

I'm not sure if you're just ignorant or trying to be intentionally inflamatory but that POS would be every bit as bad in Halifax if not worse. And to lump us in with Hamilton is completely uncalled for.
