My understanding is that this week's ground-breaking was to begin construction on the 1875 Fort Interpretive Centre (number IV in the image). I believe the glass expansion to the interpretive centre is supposed to begin at some point next year. More about the 1875 Fort project here: http://www.fortcalgary.com/makehistory/1875-fort.html

It got better after those clowns left. Great speech from
Druh Farrell and mayor Nenshi. The bridge is super nice and has benches in the middle of it near where the connection is to the island. Which is opening in the summer! So excited!

Went for a quick run from Suncor Energy Centre to St. Patrick's Island Bridge on a quick break just a little bit ago, it looks awesome. Wish I had more time to explore it at the time, but it is awesome to see the Riverwalk fully reconnected between the plaza and phase 3, and the views from the bridge are awesome. I can not WAIT until the Island Park is reopened!

So is the pathway on the north side of the river opened up now too? Or is that still blocked off from the rest of the system? This will make the connection to East Village from Bridgeland quite a bit easier.

AWESOME. Now, maybe it is time to consider improving the north side pathways too.

I really believe thees improvements (Peace, Memorial Dr beautification, Solace/Kensington memorial project, Riverwalk, St Pat bridge, Elbow traverse, etc) have done wonders to attract more people to the river and encourage them to venture further. These are huge assets for anyone who lives or works nearby, and we've created a great showcase for Calgary for tourists and visitors. Bravo.

I think it was a missed opportunity for the City not to improve the northern pathway to Riverwalk-standards when they were fixing the flooded pathways west of the Centre St Bridge. All that work to turn it into the same undersized pathway seems like a waste.

Not related, but I'd really love to see the paths at the top of the bluffs improved. It could be a really cool area (well it already is) if they made it sorta like Edmonton's Victoria Promenade.

Are you talking about the ones in Crescent Heights? Because they just re-did all of them in the past couple years.

Little known fact.
Edward Scissorhands has a twin sister who shunned the limelight and instead put her god given gifts to use in ribbon cutting ceremonies. She resides here in Calgary.

Either that or Nenshi's security detail needs to be read the riot act for letting that apparently deranged woman with a fist full of scissors get that close to the mayor.

So why have this on a Monday?

Were they trying to keep the crowds down? Because if that was their plan, it appeared to have worked.
