It is a Chimney Swift, not a Falcon. The birds migrate South by early September. They are a remarkable bird that has adapted to urban environments in remarkable ways. Because their claws are reversed from most birds, they cannot perch on a branch of a tree, but can latch onto a chimney wall to create their nests.

Yes, I did watch most of the demolition with my dogs.

Here is a little something I am doing with some of the Eaton's ceiling tiles I bought from it's demolition.
This is just a mock-up so far, as my IKEA kitchen, in it's 97 boxes, is only 60% installed so far.
I painted 4 of the panels in a copper colour and will use as a backsplash for the stove and hood fan.
I opted to keep some of the old paint layers as part of the texture in place of stripping them entirely.
I think I need a gas range with no back control panel to make this work best.

Good for you I didn't bring up the species, just reading previous posts on a species thought to be nesting their. At least you clarified an earlier post at 7:21 am discussing a Falcons Nest.

Not sure if it was posted here, but the first phase of Upper Fort Garry is officially opening today. There's some photos of the site on the Free Press page here. It didn't get blocked by my lac of subscription this time. The square planters represent where buildings once stood.

This is sort of a new topic... but:

It seems like Broadway is a really good candidate to be freshened up soon. It's one of Winnipeg's signature streets, but could look a lot better. The curbs on the boulevard are made of concrete pavers and really starting to show their age. Obviously the trees are there to stay (and good!) but I'm wondering what ppl think about possibly putting a bike path/lanes down the centre of the boulevard. It would be a great street for biking, but there's no way they'll ever remove the parking lane.

All that would really be lost from this are the fountain (that only works 2 months/year) and the public bathrooms/bomb shelter. I think it'd be great to do this, and maybe if they want to still have public bathrooms and a small park space the surface lot at Donald and Broadway would be awesome for a little public space/stage.

What public bathrooms on Broadway are you talking about? The one off Broadway in Memorial Park was demolished around spring time 2006. As far as I know there are no more public operated standalone washrooms in downtown Winnipeg.

It occurred to me the other day that Broadway has really not seen any kind of significant development over the past decade. For all that has happened on Portage and other major downtown streets, I think the last new building on Broadway (the rather modest Cambrian Credit Union building) went up just over a decade ago. Since then there has been nothing apart from a few renovation projects. It's a little disappointing that Broadway is more or less unchanged as compared to the way it looked 20 years ago.

the empty lot on Main across from the train station would be a good spot for a new building....across from the fort garry as well.

to be fair a number of buildings on Broadway have had pretty nice redevelopment's...

Can't remember which intersection, but it's near the fountain, down a set of stairs.

That's the one that was part of Memorial Park and was demolished in 2006.

You were talking washrooms on Broadway and the only underground one near a fountain was in Memorial Park before the washroom was demolished in 2005.

Centennial fountain at Broadway and Donald is just that a fountain, no washroom at all.

The Memorial Park washroom was subject to a good fight at the time between then Winnipeg Mayor Steve Juba and Provincial Public Works Minister Russ Doren over the fact the the Provence did not need a building permit as the senior govt to build the facility in the park which is under provincial jurisdiction. At one point Juba dumped a pile of Pota-Potties on the grounds of the legislature saying cabinet should use them as offices.
