Hopefully the renovations will help draw people up onto the 3rd floor and close off the 4th floor entirely.

I hope that the Gallery can get itself turned around. I don't necessarily want it to be or think it needs to be ultra high end but it does need to have actual stores and a useable layout.
I havent been in there in a while but I agree high end isnt needed, nor would it be likely to succeed. I continue to say it would be a great location for a nice state of the art theater complex, but it appears few are being built any more. Im pretty sure the turn around is going to be a long process and the fact that multiple developments on chestnut and market will be competing for mid level national retailers and restaurants is going to make it tough. We will have serious retail space coming online in the 1100 block of chestnut and market in coming years. Hopefully center city east can actually support all this new retail space.

No. Cecil B. Moore's prior carnation, Columbia Ave, was killed long before undergrads began frolicking these parts.

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20141017_New_Family_Court_building_gets_ribbon-cutting.html

The new Family Court opening for "business" on Nov. 17.

Great news.. so now Kimpton Hotels can move in and clean up the old, beauty at 1801 Vine... and hopefully disperse squatter-city...

High quality video right there! I wish we could get that guy to fly over some of our construction sights on a weekly basis. Hey, a man can dream!

New development coming to surface parking lot at Front and Race in Old City. Wish it was more density but nice to see a surface lot getting filled in.

Temple University

First off let me start by saying that the Temple Football stadium will not be going at broad and Norris. Also temple will be releasing their master plan shortly and that will consist of closely $1 billion in construction. President Theobald has nearly tripled the donations and fundraising for Temple and he hasn't been at Temple for a long time at all. I would just hold tight until they release their master plan. Just a heads up on what it entails. Demolishing Johnson & Hardwick Halls the two towers on the corner of Diamond & Broad and building a tower in its place, a few new educational buildings similar to that of the SERC job, a football stadium and another tower that will be on broad and Norris.

Only problem with that fish eye is that the angle is too high. It makes the buildings appear much smaller than they actually are, except for Comcast.. I know it takes more effort to accomplish and still capture everything, but a lower altitude flyover would have possibly produced a more dramatic photo. I love those fish eyes though.

Drove down Broad Street through Temple's campus today. 1900 N. Broad or whatever that building is has in fact been touched up. The entire area around it has been relandscaped. All the buildings between this and Rite Aid that used to house Zavellas and a Chinese Take out spot are being demolished.

Unless plans have changed, the front of the stadium was at Broad and stretched over 15th to 16th street. I saw a couple versions of various Temple projects a few weeks back and posted on here about all these updates 6-12 months ago. Sounds like not that much has changed.

Looks fine. I'm tired of the random colored bars on facade architectural motif though. Do something else.

Here is an early conceptual rendering of The Porch 2.0, planned for next spring. Landscape architect is Studio Bryan Hanes (who is doing the IRS plazas across the street) and architect is DIGSAU (who designed the Drexel hotel at 33 x Chestnut). This project is being led by the University City District, but the IRS plaza improvement is not one of their projects.

This looks good. That area is in desperate need of some greening. And hopefully they'll also do a good job with greening EVO and FMC when all the construction is complete.

I agree. It was fun at first, but now it just seems like a cheap way to make an otherwise dull building look architecturally interesting. Still, if they can reopen the National with its ground floor in tact, I'm all for whatever. I'd love to see this about ten floors taller though.

Unbelievable! I was a security officer at J/H at broad & diamond some years ago. Not sorry to see them disappear. All in the name of progress.

Changing Skyline: Family Court: It's not all bad

The mediocrity of a scandal-plagued project houses an interior with thoughtful amenities.
