I'm in the mall a couple of times a day, and yes it is slippery, but you'll only slip if you try hard, or have extremely slippery shoes lathered with oil.

Regarding cleaning it, I believe the tiles are quartz, so a simple wipe would get all the dirt and grime off. They have a very low permeability (around 0.5x of granite and 2x than marble), so the dirt and any liquids on the tiles can be easily, efficiently and swiftly wiped off.

I don't know if this is considered Rideau Centre renovations or if Westin has begun to update their podium. In any case, here's some of the action, causing the Colonel By Drive pedestrian route to be closed, forcing us to cross the street and use the underpass.

(Taken with my phone).

It's an inconvenience. If they close the sidewalk, they should make accommodations, such as closing one lane to cars for that bit and make it a temporary MUP for cyclists and pedestrians to use to get around it, as usually happens when other sidewalks are closed due to construction. They could even have built a sheltered walkway or some other modifications.

But don't forget to include people with low mobility - elderly, people with disabilities, etc. Forcing them to take a different, longer, more roundabout route isn't fair to them. For many of them, they may not have the energy or may have physical difficulties walking, and this increased distance, miniscule to able-bodied people, doesn't make this accessible for them.

Furthermore what this says is that people who would use that sidewalk don't matter, and that they're not going to make up for it by using one of the two lanes because apparently motorists are more important pedestrians, and you wouldn't want to inconvenience them by making them use one lane instead of two.

Part of the Rideau Centre renovations. Would hope to see Westin continue the new look on the podium.

Not the best images, but here's a recap on the new Sussex facade:

Thank you! I see what's happening. While it's an improvement (sort of) over what's currently there, it seems lacklustre. It's really not that different, other than the shape and a bit more glass on a part of it - that blank wall... something more needs to be there.

Here's a tweet from Cindy VanBuskirk, GM of the Rideau Centre:

Nordstrom is coming along: lots of strapping, some cladding and windows being installed. Photo by me this morning:

So the Rideau Centre -> Rideau Station access is being constructed by Cadillac Fairview and not RTG?

I would have thought they would wait for the roadheader to arrive at Rideau Station before starting the dig.

I just noticed recently that when you stand on Rideau Street and look up at Old Navy you're actually looking into their storage room. It's kinda embarrassing. Why would they put their storage room facing the street?

It's the back of the store, and there was no window until a few weeks ago. I would assume at some point they will reconfigure the store.

I used to work there. It's the break room that faces the street and there have always been windows. It's where I looked down and judged shoppers from.

Here's a view from the air of the construction at the Rideau Centre as of October the 12th:

That's a good amount of ventilation they've installed to accommodate the food court, it must take a bit of floor space from the Nordstrom store. They've also disposed of the "EATON" letters that were left on the roof, still seen on Google maps

Wow, nice to see it coming along! When is this section due to be completed and open again? I see they are around 3 stories up right now, renders suggest 3-5.

Will be much of an improvement over the status quo that was the abandoned building and surface parking lot.

Still drooling over this....

Sorry for the size, don't know how to make it smaller
