But it is hard to explain. The podium has such an uncharacteristically high quality and yet they went with the most unfathomably cheap and outdated awnings possible instead of the now standard horizontal glass.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they ever plan on painting the (currently white) sidings on Metroplace? I heard someone else mention this in reference to Moda, which according to some looks out of place with its red trim. I was actually wondering this while Metroplace was still being constructed, since I couldn't tell if the white strips on each side were just unfinished bathroom casings or the actual exterior of the tower. I could live with it the way it is but I actually like the idea of adding more colour (but NOT the orange of the podium awnings!).

The awnings don't look that bad to me. At least it gives the building some expression of colour, as opposed to an expressionless glass awning. The podium is nice but the the retail suites are too uniform and even with the orange awnings, there's still too much expressionless glass. It gives the impression of a big box store. Not a good thing when you're trying to create a pedestrian friendly street.

I hope that large corner unit is not going to be a medical/dental clinic as somebody suggested earlier.

I've been inside the building, the finishings are quite nice (and my god the view)

** No pictures were taken as it was a housewarming party, couldn't SSP nerd it up

I like the look of the retail units.

When they add the wood grid at the corner and the trees grow, it'll be more mature.

There is a gap in the storefronts and it's not an bad as, say, the Future Shop building on Granville.

Strangely, I think that the fabric awnings give it a higher end (softer) look than a glass and steel awning would.

Looks good - but where's a Starbucks when you need it, huh?

Maybe they'll put a giant neon tooth (see their logo) on the wooden grid?
(Which may actually look kinda cool)

PS - the sign I the window says "SOLD" (not "LEASED") - so that's probably why no Starbucks.
(and that also highlights the "problem" with strata retail - you can't control the mix of tenants,
and the landlords seeking tenants may be small entities without connections to draw in well-known tenants.)
