Central Segment
Tunnel
West Portal (Jawbreaker)
- Mining toward the west entrance of Lyon Station is ongoing.
- Cavern reinforcement occurs and includes the installation of rockbolts and shotcrete.
- Roadheader mining in West Portal and central shaft approaching punch through from one segment of the tunnel to the other.
- Mining in drifts is anticipated to be ongoing until end of 2014.
Central Shaft (Chewrocka)
- Mining west toward Lyon Station continues.
- Construction of a lower level support system in drifts is ongoing and includes formwork and pouring.
- Installation of storm sewers and conduits progresses.

- 24/7 excavation is ongoing as the roadheader progresses toward Rideau Station cavern.
- Shotcreting and rockbolt installation occurs as excavation continues.
- Mining advances toward Dalhousie Street.
- Cavern excavation is anticipated as early as late 2014.

East Segment
Belfast Yard (Maintenance and Storage Facility)
Long-term closure of Belfast Road, south of Tremblay Road to Trainyards Drive and north of Tremblay Road to Coventry Road continues.
Belfast Yard Administration and Maintenance Building
- Steel erection on the Belfast Yard building was completed and is nearing completion on the shed as well as the duct banks.
- Formwork advances for future track system and roofing is ongoing with parapet installation.
- Masonry continues in advance of building envelope works scheduled to begin in the next weeks.
- Site utilities north and south of Belfast Road, and caisson installation advance.

Belfast Yard Connector – Works on the Belfast Yard connector, which will allow vehicles to travel to and from the Light Rail Transit (LRT) track to the Belfast Yard, advance and include:
- Excavation
- Installation of whalers[i]
- Formwork, reinforcement and placing concrete
- Removal of the steel bridge (Verona System) for the temporary VIA Rail track support systems (is scheduled to occur in the next weeks).
Hurdman Station (Station construction is scheduled to begin as early as spring/summer 2015)
- Ongoing elevated guideway work for the future Hurdman Station continues until the New Year and includes piling and drilling caissons north of the existing Hurdman Station.

Civic Works
Highway 417 Roadwork, Widening and Structure Rehabilitation
Roadworks
- Work on median lanes continues along Highway 417 and includes median barrier wall removal, excavation, drilling of median foundations, pouring median walls and sewers.
- Panel installation on the retaining wall along the highway advances.
- Light pole installations are ongoing along the highway and include wiring, boring[ii], and pouring of concrete footing.
- Electrical and intersection work at St. Laurent and Lemieux streets progress and include curbs and island reconfiguration.
- Roadway excavation, milling[iii], placing and compacting granular is ongoing along the highway.
- Grading work continues at Robinson Avenue.
- Preparations for winter begin along the highway.

Signage
- The three message signs have been installed and are expected to be operational shortly.
Structures
- Widening, reconstruction and rehabilitation of various bridge structures advance along the highway. Final works are ongoing at the Lees Avenue underpass, the Vanier Parkway overpass and on the St. Laurent overpass.

- Pouring and forming of the retaining wall, installation of precast panels[iv] and other final works continue for the next weeks.

Hurdman Bridge
- Demolition of the structure’s median span continues and includes installation of rebar and forming and pouring of pier caps.
- Demolishment of abutments and footings and excavation is ongoing.
- Alternating closures of the east and west multiuse pathway occurs during abutment demolition work and installation of headwalls[v].

Vanier Parkway Overpass
- Backfilling, forming and concrete work continue on the bridge.
- Rehabilitation works for Vanier Parkway roadway are ongoing and involve completing the new curb, paving and relocating intersection lighting.

Coventry Pedestrian Footbridge
- Construction of the new footbridge superstructure advances with the installation of the roofing system as well as hangers for the suspended ceiling system[vi].
- Installation of glazing panels is ongoing on the south side of the footbridge.
- Work on the south abutment stairs and vault ceiling continues and general site cleanup is ongoing in anticipation of substantial completion of works by end of the year.

Belfast Road Underpass – Reconstruction is ongoing as long-term closure of Belfast Road, north of Tremblay Road to Coventry Road continues.
- Ongoing construction progresses on the underpass’ median pier.
- Stripping, forming, and pouring of the parapet walls[vii] and sidewalks occur.

St. Laurent Overpass
- General site clean-up and demobilization is ongoing for the next weeks on the St. Laurent overpass.
Albert Street Civic Works
- Preston Street closure from Primrose Avenue to Albert Street extended to November 9 to complete the vertical drop shaft construction at Preston Street
- Installation of sanitary pipes and maintenance holes at City Centre Avenue and Preston Street
- Curb installation on Albert Street
- Road construction including paving on Albert Street and Preston Street
- Weekend work and evening work is to be expected. Noise By-law to be adhered to. 7: 00 am to 10:00 pm except on Sundays which is 9:00 am to 10:00 pm.

[i] Whalers are horizontal reinforcement used to secure upright structures, such as formwork for the pouring of concrete.
[ii] Boring refers to the act or process of enlarging a hole.
[iii] Milling refers to the process of removing asphalt pavement with a machine.
[iv]Precast concrete is concrete that is made in a reusable mold or “form” which is then transported to the construction site and lifted into place. In contrast, standard concrete is poured into site-specific forms and cured on site.
[v]Headwall refers to the small retaining wall placed at the outlet of a culvert or stormwater pipe.
[vi]A suspended ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below the main (structural) ceiling that is used for the structure’s infrastructure, including piping, wiring and/or ductwork.
[vii]Parapets are low protective walls that run along the edge of bridges.
