Maybe it was the nice weather, or the 67s got lost in the intense marketing of the Fury and the Redblacks, but I'm a little surprised the crowds were that low. It is true that ticket/concession/parking prices are quite a bit higher than in the past, so that may have played a role.

Though there isn't a whole lot different in the arena, I thought it looked a lot nicer with the new paint and floors. The curtaining off of the top rows creates a more intimate and balanced feeling. The new video board is a huge improvement, though it takes some getting used to, with the scores to either side.

The team still looks like a work in progress, but they do have a few players that will be great to watch, which is what you really look for in a junior hockey team.
Thanks Giving long weekend is the reason for low attendance.

Two more home games this upcoming weekend, so we will see if there is improvement on the home opener. I think it is safe to say there will be improvement on the crowd of 1700 from Sunday.

Possibly, but it means that their season ticket base has shrunk considerably. It's also a lot lower than previous Thanksgiving weekends.

Brian Kilrea is back on the bench on Friday night, so hopefully that one will have a good crowd.

That is terrible attendance for the Civic Centre but just about in line with the 67s attendance at the Corel Centre last year.

Hopefully with the opening of the retail component, and if not the occupancy of condo units, the attendance will at least match the 2011-2012 season.

The lack of parking I'm sure is a huge issue, but I agree that OSEG (rightfully) put in a lot of effort promoting the CFL and NASL, but it came at the expense of the 67s.

11-12 they were a first place team. More recently not so much. Ottawans are world class bandwagoners.

Disagree, just look at the REDBLACKS. I think the prices are way too high for OHL hockey. Same issue applies with the Fury.

Unless you have a promo code or group discount, the prices are out of line with reality. I have been to 5 Fury games, but not once have I paid full price of almost $30/ticket (more if you want primo seats) - they typically can be had for roughly half that. The same applies for the 67s. Cheapest tickets are $21ea, for that price, I'm going to a Sens game. They had sent out a promo code for the season opener, but by the time I got around to opening it, it had expired...so I obviously didn't go. 67s vouchers are typically available from minor league hockey teams for $10-12ea, and that gets you a good seat.

All the Ottawa teams prices seem a bit crazy these days. Sens games are now pretty up there (vs. Leafs tickets are now CHEAPEST like $50..like Coke Zero Zone $50).

Is it just me or have all the service fees gone WAY up? Like $10/ticket service fee? Seriously? I remember when it was like $3.

Does anyone know if that is an online only thing? I've noticed it now on all of Sens, Fury, Redblacks, 67s tickets.

Redblacks pretty much sold out before the season started, give it a year or two. $20something seems to be the normal starting price for the OHL.

I think the 67s have the same problem as the senators have in that the arena is too big - except for London (which is an outlier) most OHL arenas (including larger cities like Mississauga) are in the 5k range. I think they missed a huge opportunity to separate the stadium and arena, which would have allowed a properly proportioned arena and a symmetrical stadium.

You are right about ticket prices. Virtually the entire OHL is in the $20-25 range.

Not sure they missed a huge opportunity to separate the arena from the stadium though. That would have cost a lot more money. They could still do it if they wanted to spend the extra $50-75 million a new arena would cost.

As for the capacity, they have curtained off the top rows to make an arena that seats 6200. It actually works very well. In terms of seats and amenities, it is a very good OHL arena.

$20 for OHL in hicktown Ontario where there is nothing else to do fine, in Ottawa it is far too expensive for the product they offer. For less popular Senators games, tickets for less than $20 are almost always available.

You are calling cities like Mississauga, London, Kitchener and Windsor "hicktown" Ontario? Seems like a bit of a generalization.

As does your comment on the product. The product they offer is excellent, as you are seeing the top junior age talent in the country. A good number of the players will be in the NHL within a year or two or three, where people will be paying ten times that much for top tickets. Connor McDavid will likely step in and be one of the biggest draws in the NHL next year. Do guys like that suddenly become worth watching when they turn 19 or 20?

Pretty much half of the Canadian junior team will come from the OHL, and look at the TV ratings for that tournament.

What would you expect to pay for that level of hockey? I don't see any reason why OHL ticket prices shouldn't be comparable to a nosebleed Senators ticket for Columbus on a Tuesday in February.

That "giant blank wall", a least in that picture, looks to be much less bad than the NIMBYs claimed it would be, as usual.

Got this from the ward councillor's web site--posted in June,2014:

Quote:
When completed, the front portion of the building is intended for restaurant uses and the large open interior space will be for community use. An interior entrance to the underground parking garage will be located at the corner of the building.

The Horticulture Building will be returned to its original colour, but because of the softness of the brick and the technical difficulties involved with removing the current cream-coloured paint, it will be painted red, the report says.
