so does this mean that the third of the building will not be built until after the truss is built?

Looking at the 111 Main, makes me excited to imagine our skyline in a decade. It is going to be awesome.

It would have been nice if they would have gone with the Crystal looking design that was proposed in the Vision of that area

Skyline speaking only, it takes just one or two NON-BOX tallests to negate the rest of the cattle. And if you've got decent density, the cattle can remain just that.

I think our skyline really only appears boxy looking from the east or west. It's because most of our highrises line the just two streets. The boxy buildings cover the others with less boxy tops.

Last I heard about 151, Waiting for the Boyer Company to finish with their parking garage. I believe it was UTPlaner who told us awhile back that they have yet to submit their building permits to the city.

Last I heard about Urban Air Center, Rumor to be a new tallest on the SLtrib.com last month, Ken ( who has comment on here a few times ) last told us that he could tell us more about this development come Sept. or Oct. So anytime now really.

Last I heard about the CCH, Developers have til the end of this month to submit their plans to the city. We could finally learn the developer, site and renderings by year's end.

with regards to 151. I saw them putting a concrete path from the structure to the state street side walk. it wasn't very wide from what I could see, so I'm going to assume it is for temporary access.

Chris Hill mentioned earlier today that he doesn't expect Rice-Eccles Stadium to expand in the next while.

So, I wonder if that means SLC has abandoned any hope of hosting the Olympics?

I wouldn't read anything regarding the Olympics into what he said. Chris Hill is only speaking from the perspective of the University, because he speaks on areas that he is in charge of, which is University of Utah Athletics. I simply read that as, "at the current time, the University does not foresee the expansion of the Stadium for Utah Football purposes, in the next while."

I would never expect him to speculate on the possibility of expanding the stadium based on if Salt Lake City decides to bid and if Salt Lake City is awarded the Olympics. The bid for the Olympics is not related to the University of Utah Athletic program. With that said, as was the case with 2002, I'm sure if Salt Lake City, bid and won another Olympics, the University would be a more than willing and gracious host of the opening and closing ceremonies for those games, in a newly expanded stadium.

Plus how exactly do we know what "next while" means in his mind? "Next while" for all we know, could mean the next 3-4 seasons.

I think you're wrong. It was a couple years ago the program was openly speculating about the expansion - even releasing a potential rendering - in association with the Olympics.

In April, Hill kicked off the athletic department's most ambitious fundraising effort to date with its "Campaign for Utah Athletics," which has a goal of raising $150 million by 2016-17.

Hill said if Utah received seed money, it could speed up plans to renovate the stadium. But he maintains he wants athletic funds to be used to upgrade other facilities before funding any stadium changes.

There are plans to fund a new basketball practice facility and six new outdoor tennis courts, and renovate Utah's softball complex and swimming pool.

"It's still not on the front burner for me," Hill said of any plans to revamp the stadium. "Eventually we have looked at expanding by eight or nine thousand, but that is in the very, very preliminary stages."

That is quite the difference from his comments today. In 2012, he basically said the U was looking at the potential, though it was in its infancy, and now he's outright saying it's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

That article was from July, 2012 - so over two years ago.

Granted, I guess anything could change with the Olympics, but yeah, I doubt he'd be as emphatic about the possibility if SLC had again come to him on a potential bid. Moreover, the selection for the 2026 games is in 2019 and Utah will have to have a plan in place, you'd think, on stadium expansion by then.

Utah announced plans to expand Rice Stadium in 1993 in anticipation for the Olympic bid in 1995 - so, a full two years before the bid.

It just seems to me the process has moved backwards since 2012 when it was announced there would be the possibility of expansion. The fact Hill, who had referenced the Olympics before, didn't even mention 'em in his remarks also signals something to me. I don't know what, but it does.

So, yeah.

I still think you're reading to much into it with him not mentioning anything about the Olympics in his most recent comments, and reading that as SLC isn't going to bid for the games. Again, we don't know what "next while" means in terms of time frame. In the 2012 article it mentioned that it would be in the plans and expanded by 2022 if SLC bid and was awarded the Olympics. That was at the same time that the city and state were discussing possibly bidding again, so it was relevant news at the time, as was the RES expansion, so the two went together. As for the renderings, I believe that those were simply an individuals renderings of what it might look like, I don't believe they were from the University. (please someone correct me if I'm wrong on that)

If SLC does bid for the Olympics it would be for the 2026 games, at the earliest. So I would suggest we wait until 2016 and see what Dr. Hill has to say at that point. I say that because it will be in the same time frame reference as the 2012 article was to the 2022 games.

Salt Lake City makes to much sense as a Host city to not bid again. So many things have happened recently with some bid cities pulling out and not as many cities interested in hosting or having the geographic capabilities of hosting, with that said I think the only real competition for the US bid will be from Denver. Yes I know they had them and decided not to host, but that was a lifetime ago at this point. I honestly think if Salt Lake City decides to bid again that we will be the US choice and ultimately be the IOC's choice as well.
