Yes, I saw the guardrail tonight...good call

. Although, I did notice a 15 foot "gap" of no guard rail (or potential guardrail) east of the bus stop. Possible new entry?

Potentially. They've been dropping rock from the edge of the road to reinforce the embankment, too.

Drove by today and they erected the last section of guard rail.

Just a random idea, but what if the former Bargain Shop/Woolworth's location on King were renovated into a large retail draw like H&M - something that fits the urban character of the city but doesn't have a presence in our area yet. It would be a game changer to have a shop like this locate in our core and not our suburban mall/box-store neighbourhoods, and I feel like a retail draw such as H&M would succeed anywhere in the city, so why waste it on the East Side when it can be a catalyst Uptown?

Did you create this image kwajo? If so, well done! I think that this idea would most definitely be a nice fit for the uptown and especially the King Street area. Potential good use of mixed space (offices on the second floor?)

What a great idea! Someone should contact Stephanie turner. She's the realtor listing the building. With St. Macs and SJH close by, they'd make a fortune! I always thought a NBLC store would look good there.

I agree that would be a great location, as Jeff Mentioned, with the schools near by, and the business community in the area as well, I think it would do great. and then in the evening there would be plenty of free (after 6pm) parking nearby for those who want to pop in there.

there were H&M mublings on here a year or so ago, but it looks like they've died down.
The only biq question is here, is how much will be required to fix this location up to make it available for a chain like this to lease.

Wondering if anyone was able to make it to the public consultation? The boat access may be more of a reality than one may think. Read up about Harold Wright's former business of his boat rides to Partridge Island and it's potential if properly advertised and pushed by government tourism.

Greetings, I'm a newby here. Looking for some pictures of uptown retailers on King Street and Union St from the late 70's and 80's. Especially the Calps department store building on King Square. My interest is especially peaked by the new Jewish museum, uptown. Can any of you boys give me a lead on this slice of Jewish St. John?

Don't think I've caught this in either SJ thread yet,
Driving home tonight I noticed a Sold Sign at the Former Harvey's Location on Rothesay Ave. Not sure how long its been there few weeks maybe as I typically don't travel that route.

There is a facebook group called something like "old photos of Saint John"
It's a treasure trove of photos and I have seen some of interior of Calp's.

Now that you mention that I too noticed that a few days ago as well, surprised me as I figured that place would never sell, unless it would be used to improve that intersection lol and I doubt that happened lol.

I believe there was plans for improving the intersection and I'm sure it was sold for this purpose. Time will tell.
