Can't do that. Not unless you ensured there was one space of parking per unit, plus all parking spaces eliminated in construction. Then multiply this number by three for good measure.

Oh, and allow tailgaters to crash in tenant's apartments on game days as a condition of renting there.

Looks like a suburban office complex along a highway, but at least it's something better than a parking lot and adds density so ill take it.

I imagine it would increase ridership, but you'd be amazed by how many people already ride it. I do all the time, and I'm continually surprised by just how many people use it, at any given hour, on any given day, considering how slow it is, and considering that it leads to very few things. I'm sure it's due, in part, to the fact that a couple of buses were re-routed to it, but I can tell that only accounts for a small percentage of the riders. As I also said in the comments to the Trib article, in most cases I would agree that base sucks. But here, between the elevated highway ramps on one side, and the back end of PNC Park on the other (note that side has no restaurants and retail), that parking lot is basically down in a man-made canyon. In that special circumstance, I think it is OK to have such a base which puts all the tenant floors up out of the canyon.

And realistically, General Robinson was never going to be a nice walkable street given what PNC Park is like on that side, and given General Robinson itself.

As we discussed before, developers in the South Side Works, Oakland, and so on have solved this parking puzzle for themselves. Only Continental, with a location next to a subway station and walking distance from Downtown, seems completely baffled about how to handle it.

I agree with BrianTH. I think Alco's proposal does a nice job maximizing a rather awkward site wedged between PNC Park and the elevated highways of doom.

Likewise, there are a fair number of commuters who drive in, park on the north shore and take the T over for free to get to work. (My wife does this.) The parking garage attached to the T station has a long waiting list for leases and if she gets to the garage much later than 8AM the entire thing is full and she has to find a surface lot.
