i love those trees, too, but i can't imagine they would stay since the building comes right up to the sidewalk.

I'm worried about losing that greenspace too. The city doesn't seem interested in creating any new parks to serve the thousands of new residents that will be moving into these buildings. Midtown is on a fast track to become nothing but a sea of concrete.

It's an issue in rapidly developing cities. Once greenspace is gone it's hard to ever get it back

GM Doraville deal closes

A group led by Atlanta developer Egbert Perry has purchased the former GM plant site in Doraville, Ga., clearing the way for one of metro Atlanta's biggest redevelopment projects.Money changed hands on Wednesday. "As of a few hours ago we officially closed. We own the GM site," Perry told Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Now work will begin to turn the 162 acres just north of Atlanta into 20 blocks of office buildings, housing, stores and restaurants.

Integral recently overcame the last stumbling block to the long-anticipated deal. It reached an agreement to enter the GM site into the Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfield program. The designation removes environmental liability from the site’s future buyers. Now the focus turns to at least eight months of demolition and the removal of 78,000 tons of scrap metal and other salvageable materials left after the plant closed in 2008.

A tad behind as usual, but keeping us informed anyway.

Ground Breaks on Two More Midtown Apartment Towers

Quote:
Site No. 1, at 33 Peachtree Place, is a roughly four-acre parking lot bordering 8th and Cypress streets. Right across the street from the Midtown MARTA Station, the property is slated for a 19-story tower with 343 apartments, plus about 19,000 square feet of retail.
Quote:
Site No. 2 sits about a half-mile away at the corner of 5th and Peachtree streets. A future JLB Partners production — exact address 780 Peachtree St. — the project should include a 10-story tower with somewhere between 2,500 and 7,000 square feet of street-level restaurant space. A total of 290 "upscale apartment units" are expected, though developers have said the potential for conversion to condos exists.

This could be huge.. and has been a long time coming. I hope they get this right. The fact that this is right on a Marta station is so great.

While Gov. Deal says that the I-75 Toll Lanes will be the most significant development in metro Atlanta in recent times, I think the redevelopment of the Ford and GM Plants will be even more significant.

If done properly, this location could surpass Atlantic Station in brownfield redevelopment. Being next to a MARTA Station will be a valuable asset. This is a big plus for public transportation. I look forward to seeing plans for the development.

Haven't you learned you can't believe anything Gov. Deal says?!

Three things:

1. 33 Peachtree Place's old parking lot is being torn up from West Peachtree eastward. At first I thought that they were not going to build it in phases after all, but it seems like some cars are using the eastern half of the parking lot (and I don't think they are construction vehicles, though I can't be sure). So maybe the tower is going up first? I dunno, I'm speculating and definitely do not know what's happening.

2. There is a for sale sign for the land at 5th and Peachtree parking lot. It is For Sale by Cartel Properties and doesn't specify what but I'm assuming it's the lot. That signs actually been there for a while. So is that project not moving forward?

3. Cartel Properties is a terrible name. For anything.

811 Peachtree has applied for foundation permits with the city and is at around 50% CDs.

It's common practice for sales to be pending certain building approvals and secured financing, just because the sign is still up (has been up for about a year) doesn't mean that project isn't going forward.

One stipulation for the 33 Peachtree Project is to maintain a minimum number of parking spots for AGL during Phase 1. The Parking Deck will obtain a TCO first to allow AGL employees to park in the deck. This will free up the Eastern side of the lot to construct the Low Rise portion of the project.

Couple items of note:

The Tower is 21 Floors (not 19 like the article stated)
There will be 369 Units (not the 343 stated in the Article)

To those who take pictures of the different and numerous construction sites...Thank You!
