Well, I sent both of you a PM. I also work at 30 Van Ness! Anyone else...?

POLA, I also heard the same thing about the building's skin.

30 Van Ness will eventually be replaced by a 400 residential tower, but not until after a new City office building is built along with a 320 foot residential tower at the current Goodwill site at Mission and South Van Ness for the us to move to. I believe the city offices at 1680 Mission may move there also.

Massing for future residential towers at the Honda (front) and One Van Ness sites (just behind) to the left of Goodwill are also shown. 30 Van Ness is still shown just above the center as it is now.

pseudolus - thanks for the link with the picture of 30 Van Ness. I have long known that it was an old building that was clad to make it look young but had no idea that another floor was added.

Not development per se, but MTC just got the only TIGER Grant in the SF Bay Area, and it is for a Core Capacity Transit Study. Read more about it in the documents with the Tiger Application here:

I don't really know anything about this stuff...but it sounds like that could lead to future expansions (finally) of BART and/or Muni in downtown/"core" SF? A second transbay tube/subway serving mission Bay and SOMA, perhaps

Too bad nothing west of Van Ness is on the list though. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but a subway going down Geary, to the beach, would be amazing.

That 1909 photo of 30 Van Ness appears to show the building with just two floors. Now there are five, but I did hear that the 5th floor was the most recent addition.

I assume a new BART line from the 2nd transbay tube could definitely go west of Van Ness, perhaps down Geary or another major east/west arterial. In fact, a final BART line is really the final piece of the puzzle to give SF decent transit, no more relying on Muni to take an hour to go 7 freaking miles! Muni could become sort of a "last-mile" connection for transfers from BART. God, the possibilities would be amazing!

My pet dream project is continuing the central subway up to Columbus & Beach, then over to Van Ness & Bay (fort mason), and down to union st, geary st, california, all the way down to Market and Van Ness....This would take the place of the silly bus rapid transit plans for Van Ness which are not fit for future growth.

this would connect to the new Geary Line which goes from union square to Van Ness and Geary, then west to Japantown and over to the ocean. Bonus extension down to Stonestown via Sunset Blvd. Inner and Outer Loops. Total cost? probably around 10 billion.

All I want is another BART line, but I wouldn't mind Central Subway extensions to the Wharf area. I just think SF is too big to try to move everyone with a bunch of light rail lines. They'd work great as a secondary "last mile" system, but another BART line would bring much needed capacity. Esp on Geary where there is so much potential for redevelopment!

One other exciting thing I forgot to mention. One of the major things this study is looking at, a second transbay tube, will be put in place to extend BART's hours into the night (as well as the obvious need to increase capacity). Currently 24 hour BART service is prevented due to needed night maintenance on the transbay tube, but an additional tube with the right switch tracks will allow trains to run in the late night hours. San Francisco with 24-hour train service, now that would be awesome right!? Night out in the City!

I took a picture of 1400 Mission today - 3 floors have now been clad with the outside walls. I can't help but notice that the building does not look like the drawing. Do any of these drawings ever represent the final product? The drawing is from Brant and Allen Architects web site downloaded today. I notice that the balconies have disappeared and the colors are different. With that said I do like the final building much better than the drawing.
