Annnnd.... Rob's running for councilor in his old ward again.

My slightly conspiracy-tinged take on this:

Rob and Doug knew about the tumour in advance, however they also know it's benign. Doug sees that Rob's likely not going to get elected and to save face takes his place. Doug has no interest in mayor and knows he will never be elected. And now we are still stuck with Rob Ford yelling every council meeting.

Or it's completely legit. But I can't trust anything the Ford's do anymore.

Extremely unlikely, given the medical involvement/statements of the last couple of days.

Oh I have no doubt it's real and know that medical professionals wouldn't lie. Just some wild speculations. If it were anyone else this would be an unfortunate coincidence. But things can never just go normally for the Ford's. As Doug Ford has said "put the dots together, people" (actual quote).

As an aside, Nick Kouvalis predicted this in July. That Doug would run for mayor and Rob would drop out to run for ward 2 councilor.

So what, now that Doug Ford realizes that a Ford can win by appealing to angry suburbanites, he found a way to push Rob to the side so that he could step up and take the crown?

Personally I don't think he has any aspirations of winning, and likely thinks he won't win. He hated being a councilor and has made it clear he wants to go back to Chicago and have greater involvement in running Deco Labels again. By all accounts brother Randy isn't doing so hot in that position. Doug doesn't have the "charisma" that makes Rob appealing to people and generally comes across as an unpleasant thug. Lots of people in so-called Ford Nation aren't even a big fan of him.

My guess is it's all about saving face. The Ford's believe they are a political dynasty and have to at least pretend to still be in the mayor's race. In reality, Rob was polling very badly, and running in Ward 2 pretty much guarantees him his old spot on council. AND he can claim that he was never defeated (which I'm sure he will constantly).

^ Interesting. I know first impressions aren't everything, but Doug Ford comes across like an absolute creep. Rob seems like a big goofy man child, like some sort of Chris Farley character. But Doug gives the impression of a total sociopath who is constantly making an effort to rein it in.

Doug Ford is a throwback to the old Tammany-Hall style of political bullying. He is a dangerous sociopath, who will do almost anything to get his way. But like all bullies, he will stand down if challenged by a credible contender. The master of innuendo and character assassination against foes potentially stronger than he. Pulls his sucker punches against weaker folk like the cowardly bully he really is.
