What ever happened to the plans for the sports complex for East Village? They always mention it at the East Village sales centre. It was an orange dome in the model.

I've been wondering that myself. I know it sounds dumb but I'd kind of like that last original house to stay, have it as a cafe or something. It's a narrow lot so not a lot of loss.

The best advice my dad ever gave me, well besides don't get shitfaced at company functions, was to always try to date a girl with small hands. It's good for the ego.

Nah, already bought in the Beltline for super cheap and renovated the insides. Loving my bachelor pad!

Also, the remaining units are high $300s. Too much money for my blood.

I'm waiting for the day they develop the old Science Centre to some awesome late-night venue to increase pedestrian traffic around that stretch.

They housed the alpha house there after the floods. Lots of late night activity. Not the kind that you probably want though.

I hate to bring up the west end in an east village thread lol. But the old science centre will be greately complimented once Mewata Armouries is re-purposed into a cultural building (something I think will and really hope happens!).

A few years ago DND conducted a straw pole on moving the reserve units to a modern suburban armoury amongst the unit members, a relocation is not in the cards.

An innovative design for a new building in Calgary’s East Village by the New York City firm nARCHITECTS, led by Eric Bunge and Mimi Hoang, in collaboration with local architect, Riddell Kurczaba, was announced at the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation on Wednesday. The zigzagging building, provisionally named M2, will contain two restaurants on the ground floor, with offices and large terraces on the upper floors.

Designed for Calgary developer XYC Design + Development on a prominent site fronting the Bow River’s stunning new pedestrian RiverWalk, the 17,000 to 20,000-square-foot building will be a new icon on the Bow River for the East Village and Calgary at large.

According to XYC Design + Development President Kate MacGregor, “M2 is a highly visible site, and even though it’s small, it will have a huge presence in East Village...it will really be unlike any other space in the city, because of the exceptional contemporary design that nARCHITECTS, with local firm Riddell Kurczaba Architecture, have produced.”

M2’s form emerges from its irregularly shaped lot and a need to comply with zoning requirements that limit the extent of shadow that can be cast on the adjacent RiverWalk. While the building’s zigzagging form initially emerged from a response to these regulations, the architect and client team see in it a great potential for a variety of civic connections between the building and the river due to the resultant large terraces. From River Walk, the building will appear to gently recede upwards from floor to floor, culminating in the sloping roof of the 4th floor bulkhead.

nARCHITECTS’ Principals Eric Bunge and Mimi Hoang are “excited to be designing our first building in Canada, on such an engaging and challenging site in Calgary’s East Village, and for a visionary client.
