EPIC!

I especially like this one:

I used to live off of Argonne and would walk this way to catch the train at North Ave station to work each day. It was a constant internal battle to not stop in Mary Macs for cinnamon rolls on my way home.

Well, that was awesome. There are so many beautifully shot photos in this thread, I'm sure I'll return to see them again.

I LOL'd when I scrolled down to the real Panda right after the picture of the stuffed-animal Pandas.

Thanks Driver8, glad to make you LOL. Like the R.E.M. reference in your username.

Great Job!

Your photographs show why I love Atlanta so much. It's eclectic - from the weather and the change of seasons to the people and the different lifestyles. It's comfortable, green, and entertaining.

I always enjoy your Fall pictures. Fall is my favorite season and it's right around the corner.

Thanks deja vu. I try to walk over this city and look for things that people might not have seen or taken time to consider.

Thank you mrnyc. Benjamin sounded similar to Tom Waits and musically he had some similarities. Benjamin was probably a more far out character and performer than Tom. He kind of epitomized the eclectic music scene that was happening here in the late 80s and 90s before his death in 1999. Jem Cohen made a wonderful documentary about him and the 'Cabbagetown scene' that was taking place at that time http://vimeo.com/77872532 .

The xmas tree atop the mall did break one year when it was being dismantled and they no longer put it up there and use an artificial tree as of last year.

Thanks L41A. You pretty much nailed Atlanta with your description. I will say that I personally find Atlanta less eclectic than I did in the 1990s. I think some of the in town growth has pushed it farther out into some other neighborhoods. The funkiness of Atlanta is still there but you have to look a little harder to find it outside the core. Midtown definitely has changed from what it was long ago but that funkiness is still there on Edgewood, L5P, East Atlanta, over by the Goat Farm, Castleberry Hill, South Downtown and other spots.

Here's a fall pic from last year in Grant Park. Fall is my favorite season too and busiest time. I will try to do a Fall thread this year.

Thanks and you are welcome LSyd. Maybe one day I will get around to scanning some old ones from 1980s Atlanta.

Great thread! Atlanta has far more grit and classic organic urbanity than it is ever given credit for.
