Looks like they've resumed work. It was pretty busy when I drove by today.

sounds like the site they're discussing is the old Measure Q/R lot on the north end of the Railyards west of 7th Street. Not sure which light rail station they are referring to, the closest stops are Sac Valley clear across the tracks past the Shops and Township 9 on Richards. Adding an attraction like thst would justify a new station at 7th and Railyards, which I assumed they had planned for already as part of the Green Line.

The Republic would just jump to the MLS. At least five of the current MLS teams were once in the USL Pro.

The Railyards has always had a planned stop on the Green Line, but it wasn't put in because it wouldn't serve anyone currently. As for the site itself, that wouldn't be a bad choice, but another good site would be just large block just south of the water intake/treatment plant. An MLS stadium on the north side, UCD campus in the middle, and a new County Courthouse on the south side would sure make for quite the start to Railyards development.

That being said, I think that lot was designated for park space originally, so I'm sure the specific plan would have to be changed. Though with the 'boxcar' parks, central shops, and riverfront, there is already ample public space and the more urban development we get into the Railyards the better, IMO.

I would like to see the UCD campus and an MLS stadium, along with more housing. It's nice to see stuff coming to fruition in terms of infrastructure. The central city seems to really be picking up momentum.

It definitely is nice to see things coming along. I've been watching 5th and 6th Street extensions from my office for a while now and have seen the work on Railyards Blvd for a month or two. The new bridge should be fun to watch too.

That's just it--the reason why it was designated for "park space" was with the idea of potential use as a sports arena in mind. I think we are talking about the same lot, just south of the B Street berm along 7th Street.

The critical factor for the Railyards, like downtown in general, is housing--hopefully we won't end up not leaving enough room for the thousands of units of housing for the primary users of all the "urban amenities" we're crowding into downtown and its environs. Of course, if they include a university with dormitory housing, that could include a lot of young residents who like a lot of urban amenities in close proximity.

I guess we are talking about the same site. I think there was also space set aside for an arena between 6th and 7th, just north of the UPRR ROW as well, though I like the other site better.

I too really hope we come close to the planned-for unit count in the specific plan. Really hope the city can convince Kelley to see the wisdom in that many people living there. Also, here is a great article just scratching the surface of how to plan for an urban neighborhood that is also welcoming to families. Case study.......Vancouver.

Still haven't seen any progress on The Warren in about 2 months after excavation? Did they go back to the planning commission for design changes or something?

...said the designer/engineer. "Maximize return on investment" said the banker.

And the built environment/our city suffers.

I heard yesterday it is changing names to Eviva and having a new groundbreaking in a few weeks on 9/18.

New investors apparently, so we may see a redo of the design. One would hope they would go for the original height if not design.

Are these new apartment buildings leasing pretty quickly? I'm curious as to what the scene is like in Sac.

I got the same invitation, the image provided was of the smaller/frumpier building. If they're having a groundbreaking after having already done all that site prep, I assume this is the rendering of what they plan on building.

Apparently Legado de Ravel filled up very quickly, and 16 Powerhouse already has a wait list longer than the number of available apartments.

Reading that flier reminds me of all the top of the head BS we spout in architecture school during critiques. Yeesh, might as well quit architecture and go into marketing.
