I find this building makes quite an impression when viewed from the westbound 417. And to think that it might some day be the little guy in the neighbourhood...

Here's a view from the air this month of the SOHO construction site.

And I'm not clear why the more attractive side that curves out and has the glass facade, is facing north and therefore not visible from the canal. Meanwhile they've got the hum-drum grey bricks facing south, and that's the side visible from the canal. Unfortunate choice in my opinion.

Phase 2 will block this side of the building and will have its nice side face the canal!

Looking forward to seeing this one closer to being complete, with both towers up...

Little Italy is ripe for this kind of development and we can only hope for a building boom here in the next few years. As an office worker at Dows Lake Court (Carling @ Champagne St.) I'm noticing a more upscale look to Preston Street, thanks also to the City's recent redevelopment of the street.

Upscale restaurants like Salt, more cafes, and hopefully a small grocery store which is planned for the proposed condo on Rochester Street, not to mention the proximity to Dows Lake and the arboretum, will all help to make this a highly desirable urban neighbourhood with a touch of old-world charm.

Fully agree with you. This may be why some people find that a 45 floor building is way too high for the area.

I haven't heard much complaining about Icon's height by anyone, not the city, the residents or the press. It's like everyone got their complaints out about Soho Italia and didn't even notice Icon going even taller.
