I don't think people should lose too much sleep over London-Toronto HSR. It's likely decades away, if it's ever built at all. Even all-day, two-way Kitchener-Toronto GO Service is something we won't see before the 2020s, I'd wager.

I'd make the same bet on both counts, but it is exciting to see the groundwork being laid for both right now, with track improvements and electrification in the next 3 or 4 years on the main part of the line.

I'd just be happy if they introduced two-way GO service to Kitchener, but that would be a radical shift for the Metrolinx planners to conceptualize someone that would actually want to go somewhere other than downtown Toronto for the day.

I thought part of the plan was to get the minions of young people in the downtown Toronto area, out to high-tech/high-pay jobs in the Kitchener-Waterloo Area...???

Two way all day GO to Kitchener is planned to come with HSR. Not instead, but with. Two levels of service, the 'express' HSR and the 'local' GO.

Metrolinx is planning for two way all day GO on all lines to enable travel throughout the region. I think they've already passed that hurdle.

Yes, that's part of it and I understand that the Waterloo high tech sector has been pressing the Province hard on it. At present, a number of firms run their own shuttle buses.

Would it really be difficult to run a morning train, or even a few morning buses into Kitchener and back though? Right now, if you are leaving Union Station and want to reach Kitchener, the earliest you can arrive is 4pm. There are plenty of options between nothing at all and all-day two way train service with high-speed express and local routes.

The morning train actually makes a lot of sense, because it allows them to increase the frequency on the line without having to have additional trains and storage capacity.

the big problem is passing other trains on the way to Kitchener, unless you want it leaving union at something like 3am. There are no large sidings along the rail corridor for it to pass a train going the other way.

Haters gonna hate I guess
99% of the people using these trains won't give a shit about what the outside looks like as long as it gets them to their destination quickly and comfortably.

As for 160, top speed will be about 90mph(145kph). But it should reach that speed between each stop cept maybe for Bloor/Union/Bloor since there will be a lower track speed in several sections on that stretch.

Those new streetcars are looking sweet, for sure. Also noticed there is PRESTO readers already installed (I'm guessing because the Spadina route only has fare paid connections to the subway, making additional readers un-necessary). Wish the TTC would get off their ass and put readers in the rest of the subway stations though. I use my card all the time in Hamilton and always get stuck fishing for change or buying tokens when I go to Toronto.

lots of transit stuff opening in Toronto this year! Its starting to get exciting, we are now at the stage where something will open every year until at least 2021. The new Union Station concourse should open sometime in mid November as well from my understanding.

It is certianly coming along, this is a photo from Metrolinx's flickr account:

Why would they use the exact same colours as Halifax? Its one thing if our livery was nice, but its really nothing special.
