Apparently it won't be ready for September and instead will open for the second semester after Christmas.

So, the iconic old MHS has another four month reprieve before being consigned to the dustbins of history………...

According to the T&T, the Home Hardware retail/commercial development on the NE corner of the Elmwood/TCH interchange has been approved by city council.

The article makes it sound like a grocery store will indeed be part of this development (as well as a gas station, restaurant and convenience store), so I presume that tenants have already been lined up.

This grocery store has been rumoured for some time, and as macas539 suggested earlier, the leading candidate would be Superstore (metro's fourth). This would make sense as metro's next Sobey's is rumoured to be built soon relatively nearby on Harrisville Blvd.

The Home Hardware will be two buildings, with the second building being a building supplies store. The developers will be responsible for widening the intersection where the new road will intersect Elmwood Drive, and will also be responsible for paying for signalization of the intersection.

Apparently Elmwood drive will be closed between Mill Rd and Massey Ave on Wed from 9am-11pm to allow installation of services for a new bldg. Does anyone know what this new building is?

There is nothing under construction there. However, they recently tore down the old Cloverleaf store (Leonard Lutes' old store) which is situated right at the Y where Elmwood and McLaughlin meet. Maybe something at that location?

There is an apartment building currently under construction (as an extension of an existing building) right next to the Home Hardware.

According to the T&T, the new Elmwood Home Hardware is anticipating a 2016 opening date. The delay is because of improvements to Elmwood north of the TCH needed to accommodate traffic for the new Moncton High School. This road construction will delay the start of construction for this new retail development.

It's interesting that the developers are convinced that the services that will be included in this development are needed because of anticipated growth in the area due to the relocated MHS. This is further proof that the questionable decision by the provincial government to relocate MHS to the fringes of the city will contribute extraordinarily to further (unnecessary) sprawl in the city.

Really, the city could have been contained for the most part to the lands south of the TCH for at least the next 40-50 years, but I guess the genie is out of the bottle now…...

Yea it is a strange situation. I have been looking at a map trying to figure out what the city is planning. My best guess is maybe there is a plan to build a new road cutting across from Irishtown area east to Weisner Road in lakeville then to hook onto the Scoudouc Industrial park bypass, and/or an extension of the Harrisville Blvd. There is just not enough roads leading into the area to warrant a high school of that size there let alone population.

A large lot of land has been cleared on the SE corner of Harrisville and Frenette in the Caledonia Industrial Park. The sign below has been erected on the front of the property.



Clearly a fairly large leasable plaza is planned. I have no idea if construction is imminent or not…….

Looks like they're getting ready to signalize the Harrisville/MacNaughton intersection in the Caledonia Industrial Park (right in front of the entrance to the Timmies/Shell service station).

The signage is now up for the new Starbucks on Elmwood Drive. They are currently in the process of paving the parking lot. Opening must be pretty soon.

I also note the new signage for the whole plaza is already erected. It says "Elmwood Plaza."
Which is funny, because right across the street for about 35 years has sat, you guessed it, "Elmwood Plaza."
It's a name so nice, they used it twice!

On my way to Tim's this morning I noticed the Starbucks was open. It was hard to tell because there were only 2 cars in the parking lot and one car in the drivethru, whereas the Tim's lineup was out to the street as usual.

It must have opened on the weekend because I drove by yesterday afternoon and the parking lot was full. Looking forward to checking it out

I'd take a pass on this StarBuck location. Who ever designed this location should be hanged, drawn and quartered! Well, at least strongly reprimanded.

Why? It's TOO LOUD!!!!!!

The talking of the customers is fine, but wait till someone orders a smoothie and they turn on their Vital Mix machine. It's so loud that you'd think you're at a rock concert. You end up having to YELL at your friends so they can almost hear you.

Too bad. I'll continue to travel to the Mountain Rd shop until they can fix the noise problem.

It's in the T&T today that the long promised fire station for Elmwood Drive near the TCH and the Caledonia Industrial Park will finally be built next year.

I'm not entirely sure on the location, but it has been rumoured that it will be directly on Elmwood north of the TCH, possibly at the new intersection they will be building for the Elmwood Home Hardware commercial development........
