Personally I couldn't deal with a compromised floorplan for my daily living, but for a vacation home I'd be more willing to put up with it.
Agreed. It's not like you can afford to waste a lot of space at $700+/sf either.

Correction: July 28 article about Vancouver House development

A headline to a Province article dated July 28 incorrectly reported that the development project "Vancouver House" had been offered to buyers in Asia before being made available to local or Canadian buyers.

The story incorrectly supported this claim by quoting a Province reader who wrongly stated the building was being sold in Asia two months in advance of being sold in Canada.

The developer, Westbank Project Corporation, informed The Province that it has only been able to transact sales of units for any purchasers, including those from South Asia, since July 24. According to an internal Westbank schedule and media plan, Vancouver House units were available for sale locally on July 24, with the first sales events to be transacted in China on July 26.

It must also be noted Vancouver House has been actively marketed through advertising in Vancouver since the start of 2014. The media and advertising campaigns for Asia and other global markets did not begin until later this year.

Anything to fan the flames of xenophobia in Vancouver. Why am I not surprised. I hope Westbank sues the Province for libel.

That makes sense, tabloids often don't verify their stories.

Sure, it's a trash paper worth more as camping toilet paper than as a journalistic endeavour but how the hell do you not quote someone talking about the stupidest story.

Quote:
If the rumbling debate over foreign ownership in Vancouver and complaints such as one submitted by a Province reader are an indication, then density and design won’t be the only concerns raised in council for future developments. Locals may question where buyers are expected to come from, and whether they will live here.

“It’s shocking that this building, which has been marketed to us as the iconic Vancouver House, gets sold two months in advance to Asia,” a reader told The Province, in reaction to reports from Singapore. “I wouldn’t call that iconic, I’d call it insulting.”
Who is this Mystery Man X that was misquoted. At least it proves that readers of the Province are imbeciles.

interesting to hear the developers take on 'foreign ownership'. the Globe did an interview with ian gillespie:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/home...ver-house-this-ones-big/article20076386/

a couple points from the article;
- construction will start in 4-months
- the building is already half-sold
- Bjarke Ingels and Westbank have 'other projects' in the works

the kitchens are quite sleek. love the sculptural island.

So what's going to happen to the former auto repair shop at the NE corner of Beach and Howe? Another orphan property?

the wine fridges are only for the much higher floors. ie 47+. and it isn't 1 big wine fridge. it is a 3 independent zone fridge. if i remember correctly it is the Miele fridge and it holds 102 bottles. which really isn't that much wine at all when you think about it. you need space for white, red and ice wine of course!

the Shangri La had the same fridges when you got into the bigger apartments as well, floors 44ish+. it is fairly common when you get into the estates/higher floor large apartments to have a wine fridge like this one.

i was disappointed to learn that the dump next door, that abandoned car shop is being left. it is really going to be a useless piece of land later and it sucks that they couldn't purchase it to just get ride of that run-down place.

I love howe the kitchen island mimics the form of the tower. Looks awesome!

Also, imagine Burrard Gateway going up at the right side of that photo. This photo is also completely missing Salt, Maddox and Tate on Howe. Pure awesomeness in Downtown South!

Isn't that so? Forget about the Province. I see forumers here trying to do the same thing too. Westbank should sue the Province just to teach them a lesson.

Lol yes I know it's not one big "wine fridge". I have a similar one. Still how many people actually store that much wine. I know lots of wine ppl but they buy wine and then drink it. I'd rather have more cabinetry or larger fridge.

I think the tate had actual wine rooms in its penthouses. I think it's bizarre, in a house it's one thing but a condo. It's a little unnecessary

what is this smexy you speak of?

i am actually not a huge fan of the island design to be honest. it doesn't look bad but i don't find it all that great either.
