As much as I'm delighted to see the new infrastructure, I can't help but ogle at the $700M price tag for 11 000 daily riders... I wish that level of funding was reciprocated in other transit projects around the province.

Ya, the Canada Line was built with station extension in mind..........a truly whopping 10 meters to bring the stations to a monstrous 50 meters.

For Calgary, how long are the individual LRT trains themselves and how long in meters are the new 4 train LRT platforms?

Part of it could be that the initial cost estimates that got the project approved as been multiplied by several times over the course of the project. Who knows if it would have been approved if they had know the final cost.

Just less than 25m and 100m. With proper electrical supply, the old cars can run in 5 car trains (125m), the newer cars can run in six car trains (150m).

The oldest LRVs (the U2s) sit at just over 23 meters, while the newest SD-160NGs are just under 25 meters. All but a couple platforms have been extended to 100 meters. But on the other hand, Calgary uses a much less sophisticated signalling system than Vancouver, has longer acceleration and deceleration runs (even versus the standard traction motors on the Canada Line), and longer loiter times, giving a minimum theoretical headways about 150% higher. The Canada Line has the same theoretical capacity as either of the 4-car CTrain lines, and the Expo and Millennium lines are both well ahead.

And despite a few high-profile outages recently, Vancouver has its automatic train control to thank for some of the most reliable and consistent service of any urban railway in North America. Calgary's level of consistency is nowhere near Vancouver's.

The folks at UPX seem awfully reluctant for people to get a good glimpse of the trains. They need to forget about all the artsy out-of-focus pictures and put up one single decent picture.

Yeah, Jeremy I don't get it.

BTW that first picture was in Brantford about 7 hours ago, so those trains must be in Toronto by now. I'm heading out to Montreal tomorrow, I'll keep my eyes peeled to see if I can see it at Union somewhere.

I live near a railyard. Some of your GO Train cars will sit back there for a week or so before moving on. Photos were posted to Facebook so it probably is in Toronto, but just because it was spotted in a nearby city doesn't necessarily mean the car will be arriving at its destination in mere hours.

The puke gold colour reminds me of our old fridge circa 1975.

I don't mind the design of the DMUs, but the colour scheme is just so bland and conservative.

They were spotted on the CN mainline beside the 407 so it is in Toronto.

Why are you guys so negative?

I wonder if there will be the chance for these trains to hit 160kph anywhere between downtown and the airport. Now that the Kitchener line has been upgraded, it should be possible. Right?

Colour scheme is awful.

I have no doubt it will leave a last impression on everyone that visits our city. One look may cause people exiting Pearson to turn around and book an immediate flight somewhere else.

I don't think the colour scheme for the UPX is necessarily terrible, but it certainly isn't stylish.

The colour scheme is pretty bad. Not too sure why Metrolinx did that given they can actually produce some fairly slick marketing materials (although not for UPX). I do find it odd however that people are gravitating towards this above everything else.

If it works on time for the Pan Am games I'm sure nobody will really notice. At least assuming they did the inside up right.

I'll probably take the train once or twice just to see what it's like, but honestly it's (much) cheaper and more convenient for me to just take TTC to the airport. The 192 airport express bus is a very underrated route. It's actually been faster for me than a cab in certain situations.

International events are an opportunity to build slick, modern, state of the art infrastructure. Think Montréal metro and Canada Line in Vancouver. The UPX looks like a slow, oversized clunker that's been running with its original paint job for 30+ years.

This is an embarrassment! UPX should have been the first test for HSR in Canada: an awesome, slick, ultra fast link between the countries busiest airport and Canada's financial core.

Bare minimum, they'd better repaint the train Go Transit green.
