Tower crane #2 is being set up today. More excavations, more steel pounded into the ground, the Braza Grill building is being chewed up.
You beat me to it, but on my morning walk I saw the tower crane coming on the semi and snapped a picture.
I had a training in the Priority Dispatch Building (Old Deseret News) building, and the pile driving for the deep foundation of the 111 Tower was ridiculous. I don't know how anyone gets any work done in that building. It shakes all day.

They are the steel piles for the deep foundation of the tower. They have been placing and driving about a half dozen into the ground each work day.

To add on to what CofIKid said, those polls are for seismic issues. It helps prevent problems during an earthquake when liquefaction of the ground occurs. Google 1980's Mexico City Earthquake and see what happens to buildings when this happens.
