Seattle wouldn't get that one. The taller part would use all of its height limit, without variation between "buildings", because maximizing square footage is always key in a city with overly restrictive zoning. The lowrise half might still be lowrise it would be six stories and uniform height.

I wish we could do highrises in neigbhorhoods like that, but even on some Downtown fringes, let alone elsewhere, Seattle is a city of woodframes.

I thought that the purpose of the square was to encourage development of those buildings which currently aren't there? As for the vagrant issue, that's going to come down to building the infrastructure to provide 24-hour services for the chronically homeless, followed by getting them into housing if possible.

Or we could just shoot the homeless. Just import a couple dozen ISIS fighters, let them do the dirty work, and then sew them up in pig carcasses and drop them back into the hellhole from whence they came.

He's also about a foot and a half taller than you. Come one, come all, this might be your last opportunity to meet 720.

I return with my buttery syrupy goodness.
I see the difficulty with a public space that is created by the diagonal streets, but I do think it would be more visually appealing because of it. And of course I would love to see more density and height in this city.
Now please excuse me while I devour these pancakes.

we don't need a square in AS...we need a circle...better shape!

seriously though...circles work well with a diagonal street (see "DC"), and it could be really cool if surrounded by buildings with some height.

yes it's hard on traffic patterns, but it's downtown, you can't ever go that fast anyhow. if nyc can do columbus circle, we can handle one here.

and, overall it's probably less of a land grab given the width of broadway and it's intersections, plus we'd get some cool facade shapes out of it.

Of course, Arapahoe Square is named as such because it used to be called Arapahoe Triangle, based on how they once defined the district's boundaries. But when they changed the boundaries in the early 2000s to form a square-shaped district (rectangular, actually), they couldn't keep calling it Arapahoe Triangle now, could they? Thus, Arapahoe Square was born, which may or may not have a square-shaped public space in it some day. More likely, it will have a rectangular-shaped public space given Denver's block dimensions or, perhaps, if the one of the many little triangle-shaped blocks along Broadway were tacked on, it could end up being more of an irregular polygon-shaped public space.

Hey, have you heard the news?! All the cool kids are moving to the hottest new district in Downtown Denver: Arapahoe Irregular Polygon!

Can we call it Arapahoe Polygon? PLEASE? That would make Denver more edgy and hip with its cool kid neighborhood names. It would be awesome!!!! !! !!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And we would also need a developer to build the polygon tower. You're on to something Ken.

I'd support that. Polygons, by definition, do not have to be regular. Therefore, we could drop the "irregular" part and simply call it Arapahoe Polygon.

Arapahoe Polygon has a certain nerdy quality to it that is very appealing these days.

Can you imagine all of the funky, weird, public art that would come about in the public polygon, and 'The Polygon' in general? This unique name is a canvas for some pretty wonky, cool things. This needs to happen.

Can someone point me in the direction of some photo threads of various Denver neighborhoods. I'm trying to recall who put them together. Anyway, many of my clients live around Whittier/Curtis Park/Uptown and are big proponents of their area. I'd like to show them the photo threads that were done so well..

TIA..
