Curious when was the last time people on here walked through The Gallery... honestly, I hadn't been in The Gallery for at least 8 yrs..., I'll just say - it gives the bathrooms in bowels of Suburban Station a run for its money.

Very happy Macerich - with a proven record of successful 'urban mall/metro stop' locations is willing to invest that much $$$.

Getting those Girard Sq discount shops across the street demolished ASAP will definitely help a great deal too...glad to see them go, out-ta here!!

I've been through the Gallaery quite often over the years, due to my wife working in the Lit building and myself in the financial district. Its a zoo! I am all for small business, but bigger chains would do wonders for the gallery. A complete make over is whats in store and is needed. The biggest complaint I have is the loitering that takes place. I know its a mall and people mill around, but very successful malls located near the city have security that moves people along, The food court is out of control... But I want to see the gallery succeed as I think its the most vital item on the east market turn around.

I'd be happy with a 600 footer at 1919 Market honestly. Throw 20 floors of office space on that baby and you easily reach 600+ feet since the tower is already 347 feet as proposed. Brandywine could honestly probably find someone easy to fill at least half of that.

As an aside, I'd love to see the smaller tower on the Comcast block reach 650-700 feet to fill in the slight gap in the skyline (when viewed from east/west) between Comcast and Mellon.

So if the plot for the smaller tower can only support a tower up to about 500', I hope Liberty does something ornamental with the crown to get it visually into the 600s - although I know that's pretty unlikely, given the flat roof thing going on with Comcast, CITC, and even Suburban Station (whose massing the original "2 PA Plaza" was meant to emulate.)

Market Street Project

Last month tenants for a block on Market Street were supposed to vacate to make room for part 1 and 2 of a revitalization project with apartments, etc. Does anyone have any updates to share on this project?

I am guessing that this is the Girard Square development. Bidding for the project has been sent out. From what I have heard this will be starting within the next few months with a 19 floor apartment building. Don't want to say to much because I am not sure what has been made public. That would be my guess on what you are talking about but there are many projects in the works for Market Street.

What ends up there is still going to be a function of interest in east market by national retailers. I think the design issues are the main thing that need to be attacked at the gallery, im less concerned about having upscale retailers that will compete with what's on walnut street. Im more excited about the fact that this dated box could be updated and made attractive than I am chasing out the people who shop there now. Based on the fact that its so accessible by transit you are going to have lots of non CC people shopping at whatever is placed there. I honestly hope we get a nice movie theater there because its absurd that CC doesnt have a real multiplex.

The (New) Boyd on Chestnut is supposed to be a super premium complex, when completed.

exactly. Something like they have in NYC. A nice, general use multiplex that would be nicer and newer than riverview- which isn't even downtown. A movie theater is a great way to add some PM foot traffic to market east.

Well... They are saying they want to make the Gallery Philly's only transit friendly urban shopping mall. I kinda think if they are gonna do that, they would definitely add a movie theater. But here is hoping!

It is basically connected to the gallery anyway.

Is anyone aware or have any details on these projects by Realen? Are they stale/stalled/etc.? Realen has been in the news lately selling the Wegmans lot out by KoP for about $35mm.

The Liberty Title and Trust Building hotel conversion just got historical restoration credit, so I assume it's still going forward.

I asked about these a while back as they are trying to build an apartment complex in Manayunk and I was trying to find out how often they follow through on their plans.

I didn't get an answer to the complex next to the convention center but I think that is still a slow train coming. As for the one by the parking complex I was told it is pretty much dead in the water. Which stinks cause I think it would be really cool and a great addition to the area.
