You mean Kyle Beckerman?
David Beckham played for the LA Galaxy from 2008-2012 ( I believe ) before retiring. He did, however, help break ground for the Rio Tinto Stadium back in 2006 or 07. I was there for that.

Just because it has been a bit of conversation lately and I know a few members would find it interesting, yesterday I was passing in front of the WF Building while they were replacing the west sign. I thought it was interesting having it on the ground to scale.

ReAL Salt Lake technically already has a minor league team. It's called the RSL reserve team but nobody knows about it. All this USL Pro team will do is give those players a real place to play rather then at the practice facility in Sandy where nobody goes to because, there ain't no seats. The Reserve team already plays games against USL teams and very little will change if the stadium is built at the Fair grounds. Its really just a name change, most players will be from the RSL reserve team and academy.

Also, this stadium will be used for other events, High School soccer games and Lacrosse games. Probably some rugby games and it will be a good facility for concerts. With the new Soccer complex being built about 2 miles north I can see this become the grand stands for tournaments being held there. Maybe wait and see if Utah decides to us it like the Bees stadium for their girls soccer team.

One thing the audit showed on the fair grounds, this is done in other states to get more bang for the buck. So this isn't something new that no body does around the country. It's really just giving the updates to the area that it's never had.

The reason for this is that most MLS players would take an offer from a club in the Champions League in a heartbeat but rarely to never will a player in the Champions League take an offer to join an MLS club.

This will change over time but for now, I can see where the group is coming from. As MLS develops and pay increases for top players, it will be seen as more of a destination for top players rather than a stepping stone on their career.

Okay, enough about Soccer (Football) and back to development...

I agree with all your points and would also add one very important aspect.

TV money.

The US market for soccer is still very small. If MLS ever signs a deal north of $500 million they will be a top 5 money making league in the world. depending on how the next 8 years go the new deal could very well be just that in 2022. They just signed a new deal starting next year for $90 million.

It's all about how much money you can offer the best players and not just 3 designated players. Also, MLS has not yet had their great moment, such as Magic and bird for the NBA or a Wayne Gretzky type player. When they have that moment everything could change real fast.

The potential of MLS become big just through media coverage is what's going to be the fuel that sets the fire world wide.....and better refs.

Yes, it will be Furst Construction's headquarters, and the back half of the building will be indoor storage.

It's great to have 2news on the first level of the "Wells Fargo Building" and KSL downtown also, but would like to see Fox13 and Channel 4 move some where downtown also.

How about this for a Fair Park Master Plan:



Real Minor and the Public can pool the money to accomplish the first phase, where a new rodeo is built and the current rodeo bleachers become part of the minor league soccer stadium.

Then, when Real Major Needs a new Stadium, they can build a new stadium on the current rodeo site at the Fair Park, which will not displace the new rodeo, and Real Minor can take over the stadium in Sandy.

Question. I know there is a huge trailor park/camping area west of the fair grounds. Why isn't that being developed into something els? I wonder if zoning has to do with it. That is a lot of land that would be perfect to fill with townhomes/row houses or even higher density residential structures. Kind of like they are doing for the brick gate area off trax stop on 4500 s.

There is a large trailer park west of the fairgrounds. It is zoned for mixed-use including no limit on density though there are height limits. Almost all North Temple was rezoned prior to the opening of the TRAX line. If it isn't being developed it's because those property owners have chose to not redevelop at this time. The city has provided lots of opportunity with the zoning change and upgraded utility systems in the area.

I was thinking that the area could have Larger/Denser residential buildings on North temple, and town homes on the interior with some Work/live spaces available.

The area is big!!!


Something like these can go along North Temple and Redwood road, and even a little further into the area.




Then town homes inside, to create density with a neighborhood feel.





And some live work spaces

Seeing all these huge boxes of apartments (I really like the density and the designs aren't half bad either)> But what downtown REALLY needs now, in addition to what is currently planned, are some row homes, brownstones.
We've seen a few row homes at 300 S 700 E and 500 N 300 W in Marmalade but row homes seem to be almost ignored.


Almost all the row home the modern industrial style. I like the modern stuff but some of the exterior finishes look really cheap. Whoever thought the corrugated metal look was cool for residential neighborhoods? I could see using it in a RDA with industrial properties in the 9 Line area, but I'm seeing it used on tear downs in Yalecrest and 9th and 9th neighborhoods. It seems Daybreak like the corrugated metal look too.
