You guy are reading too much into "the mountains are our skyscrapers." But to be fair, mother nature is much more powerful than us. So let's not make it sound like we're better.

Make no mistake, I like tall buildings and wished Vancouver had taller buildings. But tall buildings don't make a city great. Vancouver has a special urban quality and doesn't need tall and flashy buildings to scream for attention.

You know those middle-aged asian ladies with maroon-dyed hair dressed in pink fur coats, glittered baby blue jeans and sporting fake LV bags and crocs... we'll let Dubai be that. I'd rather Vancouver be an understated dame dressed in a black Chanel dress, though throwing in a silk scarf wouldn't hurt.

chanel works fine too, on the other hand, look at how fashionable the guys r here, nice shirt and jeans.

europe doesn't have alot of crazy skyscrapers, and still attracts attentio with old buildings...vancouver is all about nature, that's for sure, even if u strike a 400m here, it's still gona be nature that's the main attraction...on the other hand, how many liked shanghai for tourism, not much, it's just a big city. van's unbelivable to some that u got everything ,beach, mountain, city into one theme...let's not take that for granted cuz it's too normal

I'm not sure why this has to turn into an either/or thing. If we did build a really tall tower downtown, it wouldn't detract one bit from the scenery around the city. It's not like a 400m tower is going to detract from a +1000m mountain or a 400-hectare park. There's no point turning this into a natural beauty vs. artificial beauty debate when we can have both.

If I want true natural beauty, I'll go out to the middle of nowhere to experience undisturbed natural beauty.

Sure, Vancouver should promote its natural surroundings but not to the point that man-made achievements and attractions are ignored and forgotten. Imagine if Vancouver were a city that actually tried with its architecture/human achievements. It would have both the man-made and natural to be proud of.
No offense man but you seem to be getting a bit delusional. You need to step out of the Vancouver bubble and visit the rest of the world.

There are plenty of human achievements that Vancouver can be proud of, take some history lessons.

LOL...you're in need of a mirror.

What's so special about these human achievements we've made? Or even, what are these incredible human achievements you speak of that set apart Vancouver from any normal city of 2+ million?

It seems some Vancouverites just have very, very low expectations. Unless people in this awful smug city start desiring to have more, things won't change. The whole "no need for skyscrapers and man-made achievements, we've got mountains! lets all hug trees!" attitude.

I've taken plenty of history courses and I do consider myself well-traveled, thank you very much.

i'm officially your #1 fan! so very true! you can find trees and mountains and water in soooo many cities. there's a cloud of arrogance here that ppl use to mask all the shit. literally- i walk around downtown and have to avoid stepping on human excrement. i hate it when so many of the forumers here pretend to be satisfied by an endless sea of lame midrises. GAWD.

Well said. I like tall buildings too, but I don't think tall buildings = good urban design. I too wish we had some more iconic buildings, just not everytime and on every site.

I clicked on this forum-thread half expecting updates or pictures, and instead found that it's beset upon by trolls - and none too polite ones at that.

I walked by yesterday and there were moving trucks, people were unmistakeably moving in. I think this project should be changed from U/C to Complete now.

I was just wondering if anyone knows when the taller tower will have its roof lit up like the shorter one? I noticed yesterday it still hasnt been lit up and it looks kind of odd.

There's been a Leased sign on the large retail space at Seymour and Smithe for a few weeks now - anyone know what's going in there?

^I asked about that too in the retail thread. It's a big enough space and will probably be either a restaurant or coffee shop to take advantage of the theatre/entertainment crowd.

I do like these towers from the street level...

...but I do not like how they blend in with the other towers when seen from above.
