I asked the guy who owns the variety store, and he said he had no idea what they were doing. All he knew was the outside was being redone, but nothing is being done to the storefronts.

I guess the Jump Off downtown is renovating their whole building. Expanding into a printing, tattooing, and barber shop

Apparently the owner of the Old Reardons is trying to move a meth lab/clinic into the building. That would be a disaster for the area.

I went in there today after laughing at the 'convenience store open sorry for the inconvenience sign'

Hopefully the building doesn't accidentally fall down like its Balfour Building neighbour. .. there isn't a lot of mortar left in the stone and bricks after the blasting.

The paint removal isn't 100% so I'm on the fence on whether it looked better painted white.

I overheard the owner (maybe) and the contractor talking, and it sounds like they're doing extensive renovations to the building.

I think it's much better looking without the paint. The orange brick above the taupe/grey blocks (stone? or large bricks?) is sharp.

I agree all brick or stone buildings look much better in their original state instead of being painted or stuccoed. At least this one was painted white instead of some fake 'red brick' colour!

I'm just not sure water/sandblasting is safe as a quick fix when there is probably no budget for repointing the mortar.
Unfortunately the paint can never be 100% removed either.

Something tells me the brick wasn't in much better condition prior to the paint being removed. My guess is that it was just hidden. I'd imagine they're prepared to sink some money into it.

I do really like how it looks under the paint, but if they decided to paint it again, I'd like to see it be a creative colour similar to the buildings on James.

I remember hearing a rumor years ago that the owner was getting ready to kick out all the tenants and demolish the building. I guess they're having second thoughts now that James and King William are booming. I wish Reardon's had stayed there though.
