Nunavut and NWT have the Polar Bear. Yukon used to have a Gold Panner.

Most I see in Alberta is Ontario and Quebec followed by BC now.

But also quite a few non tourist American Plates are turning up now.

You really don't see that many out of province plates in MB relative to other provinces.

I'd say it's something like this:

1. Ontario
2. Saskatchewan (the top 2 are by far the most common)
3. Alberta
4. Minnesota
5. North Dakota

After that it really drops off. BC and Quebec would probably be the next most common, and after that it's basically all over the place.

US licence plates other than MN and ND are exceedingly rare here. Even relatively close by places like SD and WI and you hardly ever see around.

20 Years ago Brandon hosted Airstream (Silver Camper Trailers) Meet-up.
I was able to see about 45 out of 50 state plates at one parking lot.

In my last 2 trips to Ottawa, I manage to see Nunavut plates. (2011 - The old Polar Bear Plate, and last month the new plates). I have also seen 1 Nunavut plate in Winnipeg.
Also in Winnipeg,
I have also seen a Swiss Plate (Plates on both sides, no Canadian plates on the rear), and a Plate from Mexico.

I always find it wild to see Nunavut Plates as there is no road into or out of Nunavut. and all vehicles are brought in be ship.

In Edmonton you do see a lot of Alaska plates as well. people either leaving that state or moving back. always towing something.

If I had to list the top Canadian plates in the order of occurrence in Calgary...

1. Ontario and BC
2. Quebec and Saskatchewan
3. Nova Scotia
4. NWT

For foreign plates, you'll see the Idaho, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington and Oregon plates every now and then. I'm sure I've also seen Montana plates, but my impression has always been that most of them don't have passports and don't travel to Canada.

Most common out of province plates in Moncton are PEI and NS followed by QC and ON. There is a fair smattering of NL plates. Beyond that, the most common plates are ME, MA and NY.

I too have seen a Nunavut plate once here in Moncton. Earlier this year I saw a St. Pierre plate for the first time - a typical French EU plate with SPM lettering on it. It was rather neat to see......

Speaking of Ontario plates, I believe they need a redesign. Since the plate cycle is about to hit a milestone (CAAA-000), that might be a good time for change.

I think one with at least three unique (owner's choice, or local option) backgrounds is warranted:

1) The Toronto skyline in a dusk silhouette

2) A generic lakefront scene on the Great Lakes

3) A generic scene of the hills and forests of northern/central Ontario

Any other scenes that would be suitable?

All plates should continue to say "Yours to Discover" (or "Tant a Decouvre" if owner chooses) on the bottom though, and the Ontario name on top.

I like the simple style they are today, I'm not a fan of fancy plates like PEI.

I wouldn't be surprised if the CAAA point has been reached already anyway.

Quebec's plates have to be the most boring. They haven't changed at all since the 1970s I think.

Still with the plate spotting...

I saw North Carolina yesterday in Gatineau. Both persons in the car were bent forward peering out the window looking lost or confused. Guess it might have been their first time in a place with road signs they didn't understand.

I once saw a Hawaiian plate on the A-20 between Quebec City and Montreal. This was more than 20 years ago.

^ I have seen Mexican plates in Winnipeg a couple of times. I hardly ever see the NWT/NT polar bear and I'm surprised at the frequency with which some of the rest of you see it!

^I think since 1983. But then I still think Quebec's plates look good. Simple, to the point. Good design is good design.

BC - around Vancouver

1) Alberta
2) Washington
3) Ontario

Then various SK, Oregon, Manitoba.

Pretty rare to see anything above those 6 provinces/states.

Interesting, in my experience it's more like

1) Washington
2) California
3) Alberta

Especially the past month or so I see a couple California plates every day. I very rarely see any other plates.

In Edmonton it is not unusual to see Nwt since the Main Supply route is through here. Nunavut is the tougher one. Like i said before it is ussualy someone that has mived south from Iqaluit ofr the Hudson bay region and they wanted to keep thier vehicle.

They're in the BVs. At the current uptake rate, we'll reach the C-series by next spring. The truck plates are into the AH-7 series.

In Ottawa it's pretty boring, always Ontario and Quebec with the odd New York plate near the airport.

The worst plate has to be the Ontario version that contains the Toronto Marble Loafs Logo. Why would anyone want something so unlucky stamped on their automobile? Even if their plate dates from 1967.

Toronto should have plate version with a silhouette of RoFo. For Ford Nashun. Half the pickup trucks in the GTA would choose it, I reckon.
