SLC: Performing Arts Center and 111 Tower

The temporary crane is in place to build the tower crane. Eastbound 100 south is closed. I will try to get a picture.

The cane is going up and the uneven mounds of dirt and rubble are disappearing for a much cleaner looking job site.

The tower crane was even taller when I drove by about 30 minutes ago.

Also.. I wonder what the deal with Braza Grill is. Some days its barricaded off and some its not. It looks like they are currently using it to store piles of broken cement... Was it ever confirmed if this is going to be ripped down?

Also... I know its not a part of the project but I really do hope that the city forces the owners of eat-a-burger to rip the place down over safety concerns... That place really is not going to help the redevelopment of the block.

and speaking of the block... does anyone know what happened with the renovation of the old ZIMS building? they ripped the front of it off almost a year ago and have not done anything with it since. The water penetration can't be good... don't get me wrong. Having nothing but studs looks better then what was on there before... but :-/

As more steel and floors are added, the height of the crane will increase.

The crane will be over 400FT once the tower tops out at 387FT.

Do we know if the 387 feet includes the crown? I know measuring the heights of buildings gets contentious. Just curious.

I believe 387 feet was the final ground to final top out height that was published, including crown with no antenna mast.

I can't wait to see the impact on the overall skyline it has, especially bringing the northern towers with the southern batch.

For the impact on the skyline, just drive towards downtown along I-80. You can see the crane for the tower and can just imagine the building dimensions around the crane.

I can say that from what I have seen with the view on the drive in, it will have a great impact.

With 111 and 151, the skyline from the west will appear to have lost the gap that exists today.

Few things I notice.

1. Where those beams are being placed, I'm getting it's the Elevator Shaft to the tower.
2. The Metro basement and other remains is completing gone.
3. Looks like the building South of the former Trib building is being cleared out. Walkway from main maybe?
