Yeah, lotta made up towers. But I see COB, EagleGate Tower, Temple, Walker Center, a low rise on main that I don't know the name of, and what appears to be a mimic of Wells Fargo.

Could the building on the left possibly be a mimic of the Marriott City Center?

That screenshot looks like a several years abandoned Gallivan Center plaza.

Looking across the street from S.P.'s most recent UPAC pic it's pretty easy to prognosticate that that southwest corner is going to be one of the next big developments to hit the circle of anticipatory angst. I hope it does become something like a Zion's Headquarters showpiece tower.

A good example of the community voice contributing to the planning of SLC. Also, yes to this idea:

It's not a surprise the skyline is pretty much made up by the creators. It's similar to that one driving game posted a couple days ago (The Crew, I believe) - SLC's skyline is not well enough known to replicate accurately. So, create it the best way you can to look the best way you want it. I actually think the skyline looks better in this game than it actually is, haha

Not the first time Salt Lake was in a video game, either. I remember Rampage Universal Tour had a SLC level that you could destroy:

Almost every skyline. I think Boise's 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 compared to ours!

Cease and desist, San Diego Comic-Con tells Salt Lake Comic Con
By Rachel Konishi KSL.com
SALT LAKE CITY — San Diego Comic-Con sent a letter saying Salt Lake Comic Con must “cease and desist” from using “Comic Con” in their name.

In a letter dated July 25, 2014, Peter Hahn, legal counsel to San Diego Comic Convention (“SDCC”), wrote that SDCC owns the “Comic-Con marks, “which” are widely recognized and famous and are closely associated with SDCC and its services.”

Hahn wrote, “Use of ‘Comic Con’ in connection with your convention will incorrectly assume that your convention is in some way affiliated with SDCC and its Comic-Con convention.”

Didn't know San Diego owns the name. Sounds to me they seem to be a bit threaten by Salt Lake's success.

I guess if we had to chance the name, we could call it......"Salt Lake Comic-Khan"

They actually don't. According to the SL Comic Con website, the copyright was denied in 1996 or something. The term was considered too general, as there are hundreds of conventions using the comic con wording. Sounds like they're definitely feeling threatened by SLC's success.

They don't own the words "comic con." Denver received a trademark for "Denver Comic Con" in November. San Diego will lose this.

They are just feeling inadequate because at the end of the day they will only be geek chic posers. They aren't the beating heart of nerdom in the United States like the people of the Rocky Mountains (also known as Nerd Heaven).

While my level of nerd-ness is no where close to the Comic Con events, it's a simple case of numbers and money.

San Diego Comic Con International claims to be the largest Comic Con event in the world, hosting since 1970 with 130,000 people attending in 2010.

Salt Lake Comic Con launched it's first event in 2013 with over 70,000 attendees, then launched a spin-off in spring 2014 with over 100,000 attendees.

Methinks San Diego Comic Con is about to soon be dethroned as the world's largest geek convention by SLC, and they don't like that... Hence the ridiculous C&D letter.

Nerd level by state. Just look where Utah is. If you look for California you will have to go down past halfway down the list to find it. California doesn't even have a single number 1 and the best they have is a #5. We here in Utah have 6 #1's and 2 #2 spots on the list. You can't get anymore nerdy than the state of Utah and San Diego is just threatened by our success. I almost wonder if many actors and booths decided not to show up for this years SDCC in favor of SLCCC and San Diego is just pissy about it.

Hey Boise, we love you. And feel your pain. Everything we do is slow too.

...as for Comic Con, San Diego *did* receive a trademark for "Comic-Con." but not for "Comic Con." So they get the hyphen. New York Comic Con, Chicago Comic Con, and Denver Comic Con have all been pursued by San Diego for the same thing, and San Diego has lost every time. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It's a mark of Salt Lake Comic Con's success.

I still think going after two geekfests a year (Comic Con in the fall, Fan-X in the spring) isn't going to be sustainable. We do have a high concentration of geeks, but we're also finicky with our love.

Also, with San Diego Comic Con going on right now, there are huge huge guests and announcements at just about every panel. Salt Lake has scored some amazing guests at their first two events, but the experience you get in San Diego is still many levels above what you'd get at the Salt Lake con. Hopefully we'll continue improving and become the event that our attendance warrants; first two have been very good. It'd be great to see them finesse what they've got into a true geek landmark event.

Drove pass the Ken Garth Building on Main and 4th today and I have to say, I'm not a fan of what they did to the base of that building. The new windows doesn't go with the rest of the building. Not sure what moved in to the first level ( maybe a bank? ) but they should of just done a 50's theme that better match the rest of the building that still has the original facade from the 50's.
