It wasn't in old photos of that section. Would be strange to cut out a section of the building just to build a trash chute.

Actually you can see the hole in this shot:

That new one really does look like a tree, doesn't it?

Maybe that's the public art component and they'll add boughs with needles (as it looks like fir tree) to the underside of the bridge? (hope not, but you never know)

there was a material hoist of some sort there before .... as in using the hole that is now a trash chute.

look back at older photos and you will see the metal hoist things frame running up.

I just looked at them post scaffolding removal and didn't see anything.

Do you mean this photo?

Well this rendering from Omni has the 4 supporting columns along with this mysterious one in the center:

I guess it will just be cosmetic by looking at the floorplans of the top section.

^ I'm guessing that rendering is pre deciding to align the columns in two straight lines.

But it doesn't explain what that column is doing there.

Though you do have a point another render on the site has nothing:

Did you see the renders when the columns looked like a tree/teepee?

The office component looks good. I am still confused about the purpose of the additional column, the faux tree trunk one. Thanks for posting.

As an art piece, it would have been more effective if the tree trunk was a snag - half as tall with a jagged top.

since it was added after, it's probably not structural so maybe used to run utilities

If they were going to go the tacky route, might as well have clad all the columns that way.

Anyway, I like posting pics of much better versions of this project:

Not sure how the Toronto project is any better. That's a whole lot of expressionless glass bearing down on you. Pretty oppressive actually.

I disagree. Although I like central I find the toronto one cleaner looking and just more esthetically pleasing
