Com'on now. It won't be forever.

I'm more concerned about the gaps between buildings being filled in so the skyline looks good from all angles. The current proposals will do that if they get built.

Hopefully not. I am optimistic that either the ECC project or the Sutton/McCourt development will break the 700'/750' mark. I am also hopeful that Magellan may alter their design and increase their height too.

The city is still looking into providing some incentive for developers to go skinnier and taller with their structures. Maybe something will come of this idea prior to the November elections. I know it is important to a few members of the current council to resolve prior to the forthcoming election.

I hope we will see something over 700 feet. The unfortunate news about the Fairmont bummed me out. Sheesh if we don't see any 700+ tower announcements soon, we may get passed up by our neighbors to the south.

San Antonio's development scene is nowhere near as hot. Also, we require approval by a very strict design board, which makes highrise development here incredibly difficult to orchestrate.

Another possibility might be Block 52 where the now-closed post office is. IIRC that lot isn't in a Capitol View Corridor. I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about that block in a couple years now.

I live here and work in orbits which make me privy to downtown development as it happens and before it happens on the ground. San Antonio has a lot of good things going for it w/r/t development, but it just isn't as hot as Austin's scene.

Actually, the project at 1901 Rio Grande is called the Pointe on Rio. Also, the first pic is actually of The Crest at Pearl, not the 1901 project.

Don't know if this is the rumored headquarters move, but Charles Schwab is moving/creating over 800 Austin jobs:

I think the Statesman article mentioned North Austin.

Yes, where they are now, and planning to build an additional 250,000 sq. ft. building sometime in the future to house these new folks. That size would not be worth the expense to build in the downtown area, because Schwab is a discount brokerage, not a high-end, high expense one. Full-fledged banks are more inclined to build towering testaments to how they soak their customers.
