It is for the minor league of Major League Soccer, USL Pro League. Fat Bastard (Hansen) tried to build a USL in Oceanside with an academy but the city decided losing money on the Golf course was better. Fat Bastard got into RSL specifically for the land in that location and Checketts was dumb enough to let him be part owner. RSL is a good chip for him to through down when negotiating. Don't ask how I know, but I might have had some dealings with Jaba in the past.

Royal Wood Plaza is by far the best location for the Convention Center Hotel. Since the hotel will be directly connected to the Salt Palace, it will--in a sense--all be one big building, and STILL right across the street from CCC via the Salt Palace itself. Isn't that enough? Anyway, I hope that the gov signs of on the fair park soccer stadium. Soccer has grown huge in popularity in Utah in the last 5 years and I think it would be a great addition to the west side of Salt Lake.

I wanted to chime in and provide an update concerning the AIR URBAN CENTER (FYI - this should be the final brand/name for the building). Although we are not prepared to provide a formal update at this time, I wanted to assure the forum that we are alive and well and moving forward. It was important for us to pull back the reigns a little as we received additional data including our full feasibility study which supported our inclination to expand the scope of AIR.

What I can tell you at this time is that AIR will be a much taller building as we will be adding residential units along with the proposed boutique hotel. Additional business, retail and entertainment spaces will be added/expanded as well. We are in final talks with a few key-developers and will be picking a partner soon to assist with this expanded project. We are also in talks with several exciting flags regarding the boutique hotel portion. This week we are traveling out of state to meet with our architects and designers to finalize design. I suspect we will have a formal announcement coming in Sept or Oct. However, don't hold me to it as there are variables that I/we do not have control over. All in all things are progressing nicely, all-be-it slower than we anticipated (but again that is directly related to the increase of project scope).

I like this! The only thing I'm worried about is it setting off the skyline if it's more than 330 feet, but that's still awesome!!!!!!!!!

This is great news. To me, this sounds like "Air" could be another highrise tower. So the Air Hotel rendering showed a 14-story building, now adding residential to it, that in most cases downtown we see residential buildings between 4-7 stories. With "Additional business" could mean office space that could = into more floors. That would put this new building over 300 FT at around 20-ish stories. That will truly make an impact and a great skyline fill in between the American Hotels to the south and the rest of the skyline to the north.

Forget the "Big Three" We now could be looking at the "Big Four"....
111 south main 24-stories 387 FT
151 south state 18-stories 320 FT
CCH ???-stories ???FT, but very likely a new tallest
Air Urban Center over 14-stories ???FT

Now just think, if all four of these towers could go up around the same time. Bring out the cranes!!!

That's really exciting about the Air Urban Center. It's really awesome to see buildings that keep getting taller the more you hear about them, maybe we can get some more that will have that happen

I really also hope these all can happen at the same time...and sooner than later. The other great thing is that in addition to the cranes that will be going up for the "big three" or maybe the "big four" there are going to be some other cranes for the residential units going up around the city, smaller cranes but still. I'm excited for the cranes to start going up and start seeing some construction happening around. I also really like the name the "big three" it has a good ring to it. Between all these big ones going up, the airport starting construction, and all the other development we have going on in the area, hopefully we can attract some new big businesses from out of state to come keep the momentum going when they see how good the economy is in the state

It's on university boulevard, in the same place that the courthouse is (but either west or east of it). Visible from the freeway, there is an effective gap between Wells Fargo and the AIR CENTER. It's a little less drastic than the Church Office Building gap (to Gateway West) because of the height of the COB, and also because the buildings that will be built on the north side of South Temple / midblock between North Temple and South Temple have to go past State or West of the temple (and thn there's people complaining about a building next to the temple) which has the effect of throwing off perspective, but that's not very significant.

While I don't want a sporadic skyline with no real density, I say let's rejoice in any positive development (which this seems to be so far) that we get. By positive, I mean(1) street engagement,(2) something we don't really have, AND(3) height.

I said that's my only dislike for it. Otherwise I think it's awesome - how would you derive from one complaint that I had that I hated the whole project? I think it's great.

University Boulevard is an official designation - I am blown away that this is new to you. It is official to the level of Broadway, Sego Lily, Fort Union, etc. which both also use their numerical designations, but below the officialness of the temples and streets like market / main. It is above honorary designations like Cesar Chaves Blvd and Rosa Parks Blvd.
