As a photographer, you're afforded some artistic license. Unless it's your goal, you don't
have to represent things at their most earnest. Aside from editing, just think of things like long-exposures, black & white, shallow depths of focus, specialized lenses (fish-eyes, tilt-shift, etc.), or the textures of different films - none of these are particularly truthful, we don't see our surroundings in any of those ways - but they nonetheless make for beautiful imagery. And part of their appeal can specifically be found in their representation of familiar scenes in unfamiliar ways - it gives a different way of perceiving things; or ultimately just reflecting the vision of the photographer.
