I can't believe a safety inspector or something hasn't noticed it... It's hanging right over a public sidewalk... I'm sure it looked nice at one point... If someone were actually willing to spend money to renovate that building... I would be all for it.. But I'm not willing to let it sit there rotting away for another 10 years.

I do think it will be tore down along with the whole northern portion of that block for the CCH.

Why is that.. I want to preserve some of history... Just not all of it.

Some stuff is worth saving... Some isn't... And some im indifferent to.... There are severel things that I would go absolutely ape shit over them tearing down.

In fact I'm very upset about what is going on at the fairgrounds right now... I know.. I will get photos sometime this week.

Here are some pictures of the apartments being built on the east side. I can't keep the names of all the apartments developments straight so I'll just label then by where they are:

500 S, just south of Smith's Marketplace - These were the ones previously destroyed by fire

The owner of the former X-96 building thinks they are in the running for the hotel, so once RWP is decided on hopefully they will give up on that dream and decide to sell the property to a developer. I would then hope that the new developer has some vision on how to reuse both the X-96 and APS along with the former DV8 parcel.

The owner of the X-96 building and APS told me over 6 years ago that they weren't interested in selling at the time because they felt they were an ideal location for the CCH. So that appears to be the entire reason that those two buildings have sat empty for so long.

Another quick note. Between W. Temple east to the parking entrance between Dinwoody and Zions, there are 11 different parcels and 7 different property owners. Seven owners is a lot of land owners to deal with to acquire 2.3 acres of land. The value, according to the county tax records, of those 11 parcels is over $6.7 million. That's $2.9 million an acre

In comparison, Royal Wood Plaza one owner, one parcel; 4.82 acres valued at $8.4 million, $1.7 million per acre.

Good detective work Future Mayor!

I think that block really has been artificially depressed because of the CCH speculation, not unlike what happened with the land that is now demolished for the Performing Arts Center and future skyscraper.

I see negotiating being a real bitch between the 7 owners, but, I also see this as their best shot in getting the most money for the land they have (at least quickly). We've offered a private developer and hotel team $100 million for land, parking, and convention space. Will 2.9 million an acre be too unattractive when compared with cheaper and easier negotiations, I honestly don't know. This whole thing is hazy to me because in March it was only supposed to be $75 million, and now we're at $100 million in incentives; this doesn't seem very fine tuned to me. But I do think if RWP does get it, it will mean great things for the APS block.

This one is gonna be a nail biter. Hopefully your little birdies can give us a heads up on what's coming so I don't open the SL Tribune one day and find out after it's mostly locked in.

Really disappointed in this. There was a cool little building on Denver Street (I'm assuming that's where this is) that housed a smoke shop. It wasn't big - but it was pretty neat looking and it appears it was completely demolished along with everything else. I had hoped they would be able to save it. I'm sure whatever replaces it won't come close to being as interesting looking.

Sad.

That's a different project. There is the Encore, which is being built on the NW corner of 4th S and 5th E, and the 4th & 4th Apartments which are proposed on the Sizzler site.

AND!!!!!! The Denver Street apartments which are on the South East Corner of 400s. and Denver Street. Talk about Density in one area. yeah...its not very sidewalk friendly...but it will for sure change the look with three new buildings in the same area.

The picture says the corner of 4th and 4th though. Did he quote the wrong picture?

So many projects in such a small area - when I'm not too familiar with it it's easy to get mixed up.

City Creek Reserve should buy this building if they don't already own it (they own the parking garages behind it), and they should tear it down and rebuild a nice building with set backs off Regent Street to match Cheesecake Factory and put some kind of tourist restaurant like you'd see in Downtown Disney, insert Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Jump, Rainforest Cafe, etc. It would build on what they have with Brio and Cheesecake Factory and it would lure people across the street to the resturant(s) and retail that will be on Regent Street with the new Performing Arts Center.

I've always thought that would be a perfect spot for a condo or apartment tower. A boutique hotel could be good too
