Since then they've basically been scrambling to see what they can do (if anything) to make this work with Calypso in the same market as them.

Now that's something that is missing in this region.

I've been saying it for years! Build a darn amusement park. Take a page for one of the only modern Conservative (Reformist Preston Manning) I have ever agreed with and build a Confederation Themed amusement park.

A lot of people thought it was stupid, but I actually liked Preston Manning's idea.

My understanding is that ProSlide has a long standing relationship with the company behind the Alottawatta park. Calypso wanted to use ProSlide, but ProSlide decided it could be a conflict of interest and declined the work.

I too would rather see an amusement park rather than another water park(but that's because I like amusement parks more than waterparks).

That said, I think Alottawatta, if it ever gets built, could be really successful because it's more accessible than Calypso, especially if we get more heat waves like this year.

Happened to drive by the site of Alottawatta yesterday. The weeds (and small trees) are growing nicely. It's too bad, because it is much more accessible.

I never heard the idea about a Confederation-themed amusement park before. I'm certainly pro-amusement park, I just don't know how the theme would actually be incorporated into the design, rides, etc.

Skyscrapers kill children, that's a proven fact but what I believe d_jeffrey is saying is that green space is should only be enjoyed visually, not enjoyed for a useful purpose like a juvenile amusement park.

Three lawsuits for a combined $3.4 million have been filed against Calypso Water Park within the last two months.

Two sets of plaintiffs allege the "Orange Bobsleigh" slide spells danger for unwitting riders, while a third plaintiff claims she suffered a brain injury from the sucking pull of the park's wavepool.

The Strelec family says they went to the park on June 19, 2012. Their statement of claim, filed June 18, alleges they were struck "violently from behind" at the bottom of the ride by other rides, sending the father, Marek Strelec, and his children flying from their tube and onto the pavement nearby.

Marek alleges he fractured his skull and that his daughter suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Barely a month later -- on July 28, 2012 -- Katherine Noah plunged down the same ride, but alleges there wasn't enough water in the landing pool.

Upon reaching the bottom, her raft skittered the length of the pool and hit the edge, hurling her onto the concrete, she says in a statement of claim filed June 30.

Noah claimed a "similar incident" had taken place earlier that day and says she continues to suffer physical and mental pain.

The third plaintiff, Katherine Stoakes, alleges she was sucked under the water twice by the wave pool mechanism -- causing her head to be "violently smashed" against the pool wall -- in July 2010.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Calypso, located just east of Ottawa, also faces a September trial date to answer to alleged safety violations.

So that person got a brain injury at Calypso two years ago and is only now bringing it up? When this girl went to the hospital after her injury, the doctors would have asked how it happened. Wouldn't the doctor be obligated by the principles of medical ethics to report Calypso if the injury involved sounded like anything that was Calypso's fault?

(Don't get me wrong, it's a tragic event and if Valcartier is liable in any way they need to pay up.)

I think the statute of limitations is two years for personal injury, so perhaps they have been awaiting the TSSA investigations and attempting to settle and are filing the lawsuit now to retain their right to sue.

This article says the first individual made a statement of claim in Sept 2012, so it could also be a case of unclear reporting.

Wondering if you guys got any recent news about Alottawata water park out near Barrhaven?

The website is still up but the opening date won't be before 2015, at the latest

Well this would be a lot closer that Calypso for a lot of people in the city, and might take a sizable amount of guests away from Calypso if it's of a comparable size and amount of rides.

Looks like the last time the website was updated was early last year. Considering the fact that there doesn't seem to have been any development on their proposed site for the park, I think even 2015 is extremely optimistic.

Yeah I am not holding out much hope, they have been talking about this water park since 2008 but talk is cheap.

At least the new sports complex will be ready soon for the Barrhaven folks to enjoy.
