Wow. That seems optimistic. I wonder how they came up with that figure.

I heard Don Mills being interviewed about this figure. They polled people just in the city area and the response indicated 27,000 average attendance.
Also of note, in the same interview the population within just 1 hour of the city was somewhere well over 600,000.

This 27,000 figure was not including anybody driving from NB or PEI, or Cape Breton. It was just the city. 50 percent of those polled indicated their intention to attend at least one game a season.

Well that is good news if it has any influence on the final decision!

Very interesting. After reading your post I looked up the new release on the CRA.ca website. Here is a link to the media release dated Feb 11, 2014 - http://cra.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/14-1-CFL-Press-Release-Halifax.docx.pdf

Somebody posted this on the cfl subreddit

The leaders named are as follows:

Don Clow - Crombie; CEO

http://www.crombiereit.ca/en/default.aspx

Don Mills - Corp Research Associates; CEO

http://cra.ca

Francis Fares - Fares Real Estate; President

http://www.faresinc.com

Fred George - Gammon Gold (Now named AuRico Gold); Former CEO

http://www.auricogold.com

Jim Spatz - Southwest Properties; CEO

http://southwest.ca

Patrick & Sean O'Regan - O'Regan's; Co-Owners

http://www.oregans.com

Colin MacDonald - Clearwater Seafood; CEO

http://www.clearwater.ca/en/home/default.aspx

So just to round this up, we have multiple property tycoons, a market research company, a seafood giant, an automotive retail chain and the former CEO of a gold mining company leading the charge for a CFL team. That seems like a hell of an ownership group to me.

With so many developers invited to meet with Savage and Cohon, it seems that they are pushing the Ottawa model for Halifax. That means that they are probably thinking about making a stadium part of a Shannon Park development.

I would hope that those business people would put in some money for a franchise with maybe matching shares from Joe Public and the city would get after the province and the feds to come up with a stadium once a major tenant (CFL team) was announced.

With some new developments springing up in Halifax, it seems that there is a slight snowball effect going on here. Potentially setting aside land for a stadium is a pretty big deal. Hopefully it all works out for you guys .

The stadium issue is coming up before a city committee.

Thank you c-way-dude. I was able to find interior pictures of the old Canad-Inns Stadium and Commonwealth Stadium (out West) but this is the first time I have seen the McMahon Stadium concourse.

On the pregame show for the Ottawa vs. Winnipeg game last Thursday night, TSN's Dave Naylor stated that there are owners from another sports league watching how the situation in Ottawa evolves, with the hopes of setting up something similar in Halifax. A poster on the CFL site believes Naylor is referring to the Oland brothers.

I know they are the guy who brew Keith's, but do they have the money, connections and passion to have get a team going in Halifax?

I look at Ottawa coming on board, all the new construction and refurbishment of stadiums in Canada and it frustrates me (and I am from the west coast) that Halifax cannot get a stadium going.....as a long time CFL fan, we need Halifax to be the 10th team

I could be wrong, but i belive the oland brothers are associated with Moosehead. the Oland brewery in Halifax that brews Keiths is owned by Labatt, which is owned by Inbev..

Different members of the same family own Moosehead (the brewery and the brand) and the Oland Brewery (which is the main Halifax facility that makes Labatt/InBev products, including Keiths)... I think. Presumably the Moosehead-Olands live in New Brunswick, though I could be wrong.

Oui, The Mr Oland's lives in Saint John, however I am not sure where Tom lives anymore.
