[Moncton] Northwest/Magnetic Hill Developments

I noticed today while driving into work that there is site prep going on at the back end of the Shoppes at Hastings Ridge retail plaza on the south side of Mountain Road. If you have difficulty visualizing where this is, this is where the Mister Lube is located.

This will be the third (and final) phase of this development. Although this is a small retail plaza, the quality of the construction has been quite good (so far).

Bibles for Missions fall through? The lot has a for sale/lease sign on it now... not overly big, 52000 square feet or so.

This is a lot being prepared for construction located on DesBrisay Avenue in the Moncton Industrial Park West. I actually didn't get a complete look at the sign, but I think it is a new building for InColor, a graphic design and signage business.



Also, this interesting little building was constructed over the winter on Cooke Drive, also within the Moncton Industrial Park West.

Thank God! There is way to many oil spills in Moncton haha. Do they help fix rivers filled with silt too?

There is site prep going on along the west side of this large clear cut on Berry Mills Road at the entrance to Westmorland Albert Solid Waste.



This is presumably for the Maritime Ontario Trucking depot, although there are rumours that Day & Ross may be moving here as well.

Interesting article in the T&T about the Moncton Aquarium Club partnering with the Magnetic Hill Zoo to set up some new display tanks for exotic fish. The most interesting factoid is that the zoo is apparently planning a new African themed building with construction slated for winter 2015. It will be interesting to see what this is like…...

The group along with Dougan decided on a small glass tank with about 40 fish, which will be placed on display in September in the zoo’s Discovery Centre. “That’s where they have the kids programs and the school programs. It’ll probably just be a general tank,” said Milne. “It’ll be a nice stop as people go in and out of the zoo.” The club’s second tank is being worked into the plans of the zoo’s new building. Milne says the zoo is hoping to build an African-themed building.

The zoo still has to work out some kinks and get some designs underway, but Milne says construction for the building is being planned for the winter of 2015.

“The key things that the zoo would like for that aquarium is cichlid fish. They’re a really colourful freshwater fish from Africa. There’s all sorts of different kind of cichlids,” Milne said.

I have not heard of any plans for this land, but if you refer to this screen capture from the Moncton Municipal Development Plan, you will see that the land (at the NW corner of the TCH/Gorge Rd intersection) is currently zoned as "Highway Commercial (HC)". If the church is in growth mode however, they might have simply bought the land for themselves……...

Well, the image is currently not working but anyways, this lot (TCH/Gorge) is now listed with Rogers LeBlanc for 1,150,000$.

Very disappointed that we will lose our green space , or most of it at least, thankfully the city owns 50 feet so we'll have some kind of buffer.

Interesting. I wouldn't be too concerned about losing your green space too quickly though. There are oodles of suburban commercial projects on the go right now, with enough capacity to satisfy demand for a decade. I don't think this property will be developed anytime soon. Of course, I could be wrong……

There is a new tenant in the former Tak's Thai Kitchen on Mountain road. Apparently a new Chinese Restaurant (Yang Ming) has moved in there.

Did Tak's reopen elsewhere or are they done? I thought is was pretty decent.

They're sharing digs with the Vietnamese restaurant further down Mountain Road near Connaught. Sorry, I forget the name of the Vietnamese restaurant…..

No longer presumably, it is now definite that this is the new Maritime Ontario Trucking Depot. Tractors are there, dirt is being moved and foundation forms going in.

In the paper today, it said that the entire clear cut belonged to M&O, and that there will not a second trucking depot (like Day & Ross) being built here. They will be building only on a portion of the land, with the remainder of the land being for "future expansion".

This is a major vote of confidence in the city by M&O and solidifies Moncton's position as their main Maritime terminus.

Maritime/Ontario Trucking Terminal on Berry Mills Road - Facts:

- opening summer or fall 2015
- total site 46 acres of which M&O are currently developing 18 acres
- total cost for current construction $18.5M
- two storey pre-cast concrete & glass building with dozens of bays
- to be built to the highest standards and specifications to allow for food distribution
- will be the principal distribution centre for the entire Maritimes

Just a rumour as far as I know, but the argument is that this is where they would put their gas bar. I don't know how much credence this rumour has…...
