But within the realm of the Delaware Riverfront, I still feel like the city should be in that "any proposal is better than nothing at all" mode.

You know... there is an access road that connects diagonally from old city to this One water street. I wonder if the city could work with the developers to turn this into a pedestrian friendly pathway. It would take them from 2nd and race, under 95, to one water street. Might help to connect this area more to this development. A lot of money is going into the race street connector, but a diagonal right there might make the crossing a lot nicer. I know its a hodge podge of I-95 access ramps, but decked out with trees and all and creating some sort of nice pathway or bike lane or maybe even pedestrian bridge might really make for a neat connection to that sliver of old city homes.

You could basically take that stretch of floral street and open it up for pedestrains to cut across to that area. Would be a neat space!

Two different projects.

The whole foods development is Rodin Square, which will replace the Best Western. This will be 10 floors. Supposedly this will get started within the next few weeks since the sale of the Best Western has been finalized.

This is a new proposal. It is across the street from this development and directly behind the Rodin Museum. It is a hole in the ground (old RR city branch) where Police park. Proposed by Cross Properties it could range from 7-11 floors.

9-story affordable housing midrise for SE corner of 9th & Arch:

Thanks to Cro for the link!

Finally more info about this. We heard about this last year. It will finally get underway in September.

Glad this is getting underway. Wonder what they mean by affordable? North Philly affordable or Center City affordable? Either way glad this lot will be filled. Looks like this will be built on the parking lot/half empty lot between the parking garage and the ramp down to the underground parking garage at 9th and Arch. That means the parking lot right on the corner of 9th and Arch will remain a parking lot.

Edit: Center City affordable according to this Philly.com article.

Not sure how someone determined that Atlanta and Miami are more walkable than Philly, but that's a joke.

I never take those lists seriously.

Philly is more walkable than Washington D.C., Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Baltimore and Miami.

I've tried arguing with atlantians before, they are convinced it is just as walkable. So much of america simply doesn't know the difference between tall buildings and urban.

i saw this list on another thread and knew this list was garbage when philly was ranked 14th on the 'current' list. I then scrolled to the 'future' list and didn't see philly in the top 25, and was beyond dumbfounded. garbage, i tell you, garbage.

Atlanta and Miami are small cities, roughly 500,000 residents within the city limits. That skews the statistics. Philadelphia is by far one of the three most walkable cities in the country, maybe even two.

It's here across from the Pearl: http://goo.gl/maps/9eQfr

I had trouble finding it - the stretch of Arch between 7th and 9th is overloaded with parking lots, I couldn't tell which was it. Googlemaps says that 810 Arch St is the parking garage that straddles 8th St, which didn't help. Design and materials look hideous but can't expect much for affordable housing. Wondering what's going on with the Community Center on Vine St....

I have nothing against Atlanta or Miami, but it’s pretty obvious that most the cities on that list aren’t nearly as walkable as Philly. Even the Midtown, Downtown, and Buckhead neighborhoods aren’t even that walkable and they are in the densest areas of Atlanta. I propose these researchers use common sense before releasing studies that appear flawed.

I went past there recently and noticed nothing had changed with the old hotel building. Havent heard anything about this project is months. They vacated the hotel a while ago and I think demo permits were issues but nothing has happened.
