So they have gone from that *stunning* circular tower to a mediocre kinda 80s-90s uninspired tower? Considering where this is going and its prominence, kinda hope the NIMBYs take care of it. Meh.

I much preferred the oval glass design, but something of this size in that area of the city would be ok with me. It looks much better than what's currently there and I also like that it will help create a nice little cluster on Cathedral Hill.

The old design was better, but this one is pretty nice too IMO. I hope it gets built.

let's not let perfect be the enemy of good— it's not the best design, but getting some new development in that area, fixing the street presence on geary/post, helping the housing crisis and solidifying Cathedral Hill as an 'acceptable' place for new towers are all huge wins, overweighing subjective design tastes imo

fimiak - Thanks for the notice. I was startled this morning to see the 2 giant slabs of granite installed at Market & 10th Streets. I love granite! I do not see a rendering of the Whispering Stones at NEMA's site and the picture online does not show the current granite slabs. Do you know if the plan has changed? I really liked the original plan - the 2 balancing granite boulders are a wonderful idea.

July 3, 2014 - The first image shows the artist rendering from NEMA's web page. It appears that the design of the corner art space may have been changed. The other views are of the granite columns and granite paving ready for installation. (Sun & shadow make for a bad photo)

Guys, I've recorded almost 70 videos in the US one month ago and I'm just uploading the 2 of them who have some shots of the constructions (of any size), most of them from far away. Sometimes, the only picture that Youtube allows to use as the front-image of the videos can't show everything. If you take a look at the videos, you may find some stuff. Sometimes, like the case of the New York videos (posted on the NYC threads) the videos clearly shows the constructions, like the One57 or the 432 Park Ave who, by the way, are remarkable for its size which it makes them look clearly on the shots.

However, I just uploaded them here to add material to the thread, not to advertise anything. But I will delete them so there's no confusions of any kind.

I enjoyed those videos, too. Wish we had a Community Discussions off topic thread to put these videos in to avoid the backlash that ensued. Atlanta's subforum has that kind of thread, but it is much more active forum that goes off topic more than any other, it seems.

Anyway, snapped some pics and it looks like Wakamesalad beat me to one.

55 Laguna (336 units, incl 110 for LGBT seniors and 50 for low to moderate incomes)

My observation is that this is painfully slow. Buildgroup is the contractor. Buildgroup is also the contractor for 45 Lansing, which IMO is also painfully slow. Buildgroup is proud to be a completely unionized contractor, and is working on the two slowest projects in the city. Is there a correlation? I don't know. Maybe they are the two most complex projects in the city. But they are happening wayyy too slowly for my impatient tastes.

Mid-market area - I agree NEMA's top looks amateur.

There's hardly an angle where you can escape that Mechanical box. Those glass wings should have been made higher and fuller.
