Sky's had all three Waterfront commercial units filled since last summer, but now that the landscaping is all done and they've started to put up signs you can actually notice them.

There's the architect that's been there for a while, an accountant, and an insurance agent.

Hello all: first post here, but I killed a week at work reading the forums from 2011 to present

Just spotted someone heading into the Pumphouse from my window, and noticed an extension cord running into the bldg through the front door!

eta: more (well dressed, clearly not construction workers) arriving. Seems like a meeting of some sort?

Yes! It was another (older) couple who met up with them, stayed for about an hour, then left. The pair with the projection equipment left shortly afterwards. I was ITCHING to just to peek in the door

^ I haven't seen nicer photos of the Mere, Cibo's and Waterfront Dr. as these. It's an angle that is not often photographed. Well done.

I was thinking the same thing... it would be a great angle for the hotel's marketing photos. Looking at those pictures, if you didn't know any better you would expect Waterfront to be something like Corydon!

$800k is up for approval for Elgin Ave streetscaping this year. Seems pretty quick considering the master plan was just completed a couple weeks ago. Does that seem a bit weird or no? To update the lane prior to anything else being done? Or is it a "we'll make this fancy laneway so everyone will flock to the area". Then upgrade the roads later.

At least they are putting the money into the city; I much prefer this than the $10k to condo purchasers or the grants for residential units in the exchange.

I don't know how much $800k will do for that stretch, but I'm hopeful.

^ I would imagine that the plan for Elgin was worked out some time ago and was just waiting for the master plan to be finalized. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out, but I don't think it will really become a hub unless there are actually businesses fronting on to the alley... otherwise to passers-by it will look like just another backlane.

^ just paving Elgin will be a massive improvement. I suspect most if not all of the $800k will go towards the new surface.

Parlour Coffee, from what I've heard, has an agreement with the building 2 doors down to have a patio in front of it... So now right beside the Fox and Fiddle patio is another one for Parlour Coffee.

Whatever happened to the plan to transform Albert into pedestrian-only? I would love to see that.

The district needs boutique hotels. I doubt the Royal Albert would become one, so I guess we can hope for the St. Charles despite the drama surrounding it. The interior has been destroyed, so retain the façade, and let's move on people...

Since the city can find funds to expropriate property in Polo Park for infrastructure, I think the city can find the money to purchase the McLaren, which would be a jewel if redeveloped into affordable condos. It would be a catalyst for the area, and perhaps Main Street could thrive once again rather than remaining a blight, and haven for social misfits. A redeveloped Chinatown and Princess lined with lofts, etc would be wonderful!

^ Now that the East Exchange has a nice, new boutique hotel, it would be great if the West Exchange had one too. If someone wants to really experience the heart of the Exchange, the Mariaggi is the only option and that's not really a conventional hotel.

I suspect that the St. Charles and the Albert are too far gone to redevelop economically, though... I'd imagine that any hotel would likely have to be a new build.

I was given a gift certificate for a stay at the Mariaggi once. Its ubber creepy. I honestly can't fathom why it has such postive reviews on tripadvisor. The room we got was super cheesy. Like they got their idea of whats romantic from an 80's 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Plasic grapes and vines. A green hotub and shower with a gold coloured surround. Seriously straight out of the 80's. It was really outdated.
