Plus, I think the Study will be a great complement to the Papadakis Science Building, Chestnut Square, and Penn's new Hill Field house. LA would be so lucky if we could get such a nicely-designed building around downtown.

Here's the rundown of all of the amenities at Pier 68:
· Entrance deck with wood paving, seating and site furnishings that register water elevation.
· A collection of native trees that begin to conceal the parking lot and traffic to the west. Trees will serve as a thresh hold, marking that visitors have crossed into a new riverside environment
· A Picnic Grove where a gravel walking surface and a combination of furnishings and trees will create a space to rest and enjoy the shade
· 4.5' deep aquatic cut into the pier surface, showing the tidal happenings and filled with native, aquatic plants.
· Rope and cable bridge structure over the aquatic cut.
· Angled lawn for lounging and sun-bathing
· Long linear bench for seating
· Water-side walk and open pier terminus

This is my first time seeing a rendering of what this'll look like it's done. Pretty nice!

You know... I keep getting confused by all this pier talk. Which pier is this? Is it right next to the pier that is getting a light pole thing thang? It would be neat if someone made a map of all the piers with proposals and all the piers that are anticipated to be developed. Or maybe made a nice map of the river trail from north to south? Does that exist? I was back there the other day and was suprised to find a skatepark too! But whenever they say "pier 53", I have absolutely NO IDEA was 53 means. Sure, 53rd... but it just becomes difficult in figuring out where along the stretch that really is.

I hadn't read much about it and realize now it is a pop up park. That very much bums me out. Hoping it sees a lot of action this summer and it can lead to something more permanent.

I went there last night. It was SOOO packed and SOOO nice. But that got me thinkn'... is this the water front we have all hoped and dreamed for - minus the big renovations and development project they seek?

Hanging out there, I realized how nice that strip outside the hyatt is. Beautiful fountains, interesting nooks and crannies of varying levels. 95 and collumbus blvd didn't really seem like obstacles at all to me.

So, could the waterfront be what we all hoped it dreamed it could be simply by having the right kind of programming? Open up more restaurant space, have awesome games, a beer garden, etc etc.

Perhaps they should take whatever lessons learned here and apply it to their future ideas. However they did it, this was an amazing re-design of the space. I loved it. Only thing it is missing is a DJ that goes until 1am for dancing since it is open that late anyway.

Spruce Street Harbor Parks are the future; industrial uses and highways are the past. Unfortunately, the news has yet to reach Planet PennDOT, where there's still a ridiculous plan in the works to widen I-95 by 60 feet in the Central Delaware area near Spruce, Race, and Washington - right in the area where the city's been fighting an uphill battle to reconnect the waterfront to the urban street grid.

I jog down that dock as part of my routine run... it is packed now, I was dodging people left and right. I know it's good for the city but man do I hate it now. Guess I have to change my route. The actual garden does look nice. Maybe next time I head down it'll have to be for a beer instead of a jog.
