I'm hoping for the hotel option as well. As you mention, more rooms are needed downtown. Also, not sure exactly how the circulation works on-site, but I hope they are considering returning the O and 6th Street ROWs to something closer to a real street. At minimum, there should be something resembling storefronts on those ROWs.

Overall though, glad to see a quality project proposed for this old super block, and a new kind of residential product proposed for the city/region.

Those of you who frequent Midtown may have noticed that two buildings were demolished on the northeast corner of 21st and Capitol, next to Kupros Bistro. Turns out the owner is going to put a surface parking lot on the site.

Apparently they may be putting in a Whole Foods a block away.

But they're claiming it is a temporary lot, so it can't be for a Whole Foods unless the Whole Foods is also temporary...even funnier is that they're only getting like 18 spaces out of a plot of prime Midtown land on a very prominent corner. Plus it is a block away from the WF site...will people roll their carts across 21st and Capitol?

The residential midrise planned for 15th and I Street goes to Planning Commission this week. 16 Powerhouse is topped out and they're working on the exterior of the new building at WAL. Lots of small infill under construction all over town--19th and Capitol, 17th and P, lots of alley units and things on formerly vacant lots. Last week was a meeting about the I Street "replacement" bridge--they aren't actually replacing the I Street bridge (it will remain as a railroad bridge) but the plan is a new bridge a block or so north to connect a street in West Sacramento to Railyards Boulevard on the Sacramento side.

Canny Place Apartments in Township 9, look close to completion. The windows in these apartments are very large and look like nice, urban places to live.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why they chose to build the first part of the project at the very back of the site, instead of in front closest to the light rail line.

Is Sacramento’s housing market ready to grow up?
http://www.sacbee.com/2014/06/15/6484026/is-sacramentos-housing-market.html

(About the Metropolitan and other projects, plus comments from Nassi and he said he is looking for sites to develop)

Comstock's Magazine has a good article about modular construction of new buildings, and how the Warren will use this method.

https://www.comstocksmag.com/building-blocks-0

The one big disappointment is the new rendering of the Warren from the article:

This thing has taken a noise dive in architectural quality, not to mention the continued lowering of floor count.

Wish we were still getting this:

I hope that is not the design they are going with. The floor reduction was bad enough, but this does not look good. But it kinda matches the east end complex a little better in terms of height and ugliness.

I'd like to see the east end complex torn down. Why in the heck didn't they put everything on a half or full city block?

^^

Yuck!! Did they take a time machine to 1992 for that rendering. Talk about dated before it's even built.

Every new building on 16th and R looks better then that and you could argue the Warren is on a more visible corner.

Seriously, it looks like something you'd see in the UC Davis Medical area on Stockton. It's too bad they had to cheapen it up.

Can't keep track of all the downtown projects? Here's a checklist

from the Sacramento Business Journal

One project on that list, Sacramento Commons, has a date with the Planning and Design Review Commission tomorrow. It's just for review and comment, not for approval, but important nonetheless.

http://sacramento.granicus.com/GeneratedAgendaViewer.php?view_id=21&event_id=126

There has been a lot of vocal neighbor opposition to the project as currently proposed, and seemingly few speaking in favor. I would assume most forumers are in support of the project, and I'd urge you to send an email of support to the Commissioners, as well as Councilman Hansen. It's important that they hear the public support for good projects like these that get the kind of pushback and frankly misguided NIMBYism that this project has seen. If you can and are brave enough, voice your support directly in front of the commission.

Either way, the word needs to get out that there is public support for this kind of project, not just the small-thinking that is so often trumpeted.
