The boardwalk opens at 5 am. All the parks and trails used to - until recently - have a curfew from 10 pm to 5 am.

From the AAS (premium article, but reposted on reddit)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comme..._boardwalk_at/

Quote:
The boardwalk trail, contrary to earlier statements by city of Austin officials and the expectation of at least one council member, won’t be open 24-7 when it debuts Saturday. Instead, the trail will be closed each night from midnight to 5 a.m. People caught on the trails, in parks or on the boardwalk during a curfew period are subject to a citation and a fine of $180 to $235, parks spokesman Victor Ovalle said.

That five-hour nightly prohibition would align with the recently reduced curfew on an adjoining section of the Butler Hike and Bike Trail — from the boardwalk’s west end to the Pfluger pedestrian bridge near Lamar Boulevard — on the Johnson Creek trail in West Austin, and on the Shoal Creek trail between West Cesar Chavez and West 15th streets.

The rest of Austin’s trails, and its parks, are closed somewhat longer each night, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Austin Parks and Recreation Director Sara Hensley a month ago quietly extended the open period by two hours on the three trails, moving it from 10 p.m. to midnight, and decided on identical hours for the boardwalk when it opens.
Good grief - if you're gonna have a curfew, at least apply it uniformly to cover all the parks and trails. I think it's stupid to have different parts of the trail have different curfew hours.

Yes, I wish they would have a blanket curfew from midnight to 5 am for all the parks and the trails. It seems not only odd and confusing to have all the different times, but it's hard to enforce that and extend disciplinary actions whenever someone is caught. Most of the access points for the trail and boardwalk are via the parks, so it doesn't make sense at all to have different curfew times for them. I was on the boardwalk Saturday until 11 pm, and I wasn't even sure if it would be safe to exit via Auditorium Shores. I ended up riding through the American-Statesman parking lot to Congress with a group of riders.

We should all send emails/messages to the trail foundation and parks department asking them to please revise the curfews so they coincide with each other.

solutions for your problem

so here is how you deal with the boardwalk.... start hanging out on your porch naked and walk around with a half-chub while eating jello pudding pops and listening to right said fred, "I'm too sexy for this land.... New York and Japan"

Relax, bro. We're just posting more in the Austin subforum these days. This forum is mostly for new announcements and most of the activity these days is just updates.

The quality of this thread is starting to suck, (and I know that I just added nothing to help that.)

It seems like a bit of a lull, what happened to Zaza? I thought they were kind of doing site prep already. And the project on 8th street was supposed to start in June I thought.
