There is a pair of those types of plants at the end of each planter, it's very well done.

Not extremely pretty, the power cable for the streetar. Jesus what an eyesore!

I also drove around the O4W park area. That area gives me a weird vibe like some half dog half scorpion might jump out of a gutter somewhere. I heard that the Home Depot/Whole Foods shopping center just north of the PCM project got built on top of a magical spring. Does anyone have any information on that? I'm wondering what the course of that spring was and particularly if it went through the area that was excavated to make the deep water reservoir in the O4W park.
From the 1880's info I have, the actual springs were on the south side of Ponce de Leon Ave. Apparently the water was so sulfurous that people just assumed it was medicinal so the area was mainly used as just a country get-away before the huge amusement park was built at the site near the Masquerade. You can get a bit of the "flavor" of the water down at Indian Springs Park near Jackson, GA. Amazingly there's always a line of folks filling up jugs at the spring house. Sneak over to Fresh Air BBQ for a lunch break (totally worth it!)

Speaking of sulfurous, that whole O4W park area stinks like raw sewage and as I was pulling out back onto Ponce, this big group of motorcycles pulled up next to me. They all had "RAW SEWAGE" written on the back of their jean jackets. Lovely.

I've never smelt raw sewage in the area. Maybe Kroger's dumpster? It's been awful in this heat if you walk along North Avenue / along the side of Kroger.

From the highway it looked like there was work on 250 Piedmont Ave. One of those construction chutes was tacked up the building and some windows looked to be removed. Paces may be starting their conversion of the office tower to residential.

I'm not sure if this is a supid joke or a serious comment. I've been in that area a lot and have never noticed the smell of raw sewage.

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I have heard that the Atlanta Waterworks is working on a plan to take down fences and to plan for a public park along the Beltline.

Every streetcar has an overhead Catenary System. That is how they give electricity to streetcars. They can't electrify the tracks because...well, it would kill pedestrians.

The weird vibe you were feeling around the Old Fourth Ward was called character. And that hood as a lot of it. Sorry it does not look like Dunwoody

I'm thrilled to know that you are starting to hear about this. I am one of the dudes that's assisting with the Atlanta Waterworks Page on Facebook, and we've been working with folks like Jamestown, neighborhoods adjacent to the area, and others to get the word out.

Here's an article that Creative Loafing just did on our efforts:

Everyone should consider liking the AWW page (we don't overpost, so it won't get annoying): https://www.facebook.com/AtlantaWaterworksPark

I'm also not sure if this is a joke as others have said, but it wouldn't suprise me if it smelled like sewage from time to time (Actually, you would probably have a greater chance of this smell near the home depot, whole foods, etc.). In this area of town there is a huge trunk line for a combined storm sewer line that runs right through the parking lot. When it was built, sewer and storm were combined into one singular line that then ran downstream. This is obviously no longer a standard practice (it creates a larger burden on the sewer system and the treatment plants), however all of the stores in the area still connect to this line. I believe most of the manholes are built with a dip in them (Basicallly a p-trap like you'd find under your sink), however if the water level drops in these there is a chance you'll get a wiff of the sewer trunk line.

Ponce City Market plans two buildings, plaza for Beltline Eastside Trail

(The Shed Building)

(The Boiler Building)

According to Creative Loafing, two new commercial buildings and a large public plaza will line the Atlanta Beltline's Eastside Trail alongside the Ponce City Market in a major new project whose construction started Saturday.Construction will take about a year, the developers say all permitting is already in place.

The plan involves a major renovation of the existing "Shed Building," a long warehouse structure along the Beltline's popular mixed-use trail. The plan involves turning it into a glassy new market entrance with a nearly 350-foot-long outdoor deck and seating area. The spot eventually could serve as a Beltline transit stop, too.

The new hard-scaped plaza with tables and chairs will run alongside about 100 feet of the trail just north of the North Avenue bridge. A "native grass meadow" will separate the plaza from the trail.

That plaza will lay before an unusual new building - known as the "Boiler Building" - that eventually will be a 16-story condo tower, but will start as a 30-foot-high parking garage with a glass-walled pavilion fronting on the Beltline.

This isn't entirely true. There is the rare fuel-powered streetcars and then those with batteries. The line that will break ground in a few weeks in Detroit will run mostly off-wire and use battery power for much of the route.

Yes, very old. In fact its so old that one of the renderings, in which the Ravinia complex is shown in the background does not include Three Ravinia, built in 1991.

Three of the shorter towers in this plan have been built. (400, 500 and 600 Northpark.) http://www.northparktowncenter.com/home.axis

The space where the tallest tower was planned remains undeveloped and the subject of various proposals. Some of those proposals are still called 100 Northpark. http://atlanta.curbed.com/tags/100-northpark

The triangle square of land where Northpark 100 is planned to go is probably one of the most desirable spaces left undeveloped in the Perimeter Center area. There is already an entrance to the Sandy Springs Marta station on the lot and it is directly on 400 just a mile north of 285 with high visibility. Something large will probably be built there, its just going to take the right tenant to build it out.

that's pretty cool. i i know of streetcars powered by an elaborate system in the tracks as well that keeps uncovered sections of track unpowered until the train is directly overhead.

The 2.5 acre lot on the north side of Bishop St near 17th St (next to FireXdog Designs/AngryDog IT and across from 500 Bishop St) has had the existing building industrial demolished, trees removed, and significant excavation is underway. The big concrete " sewer tubes" are on site. The "Sold" sign said it's supposed to be +/-240 residential units. When there's something more than dirt to take pictures of, I'll post some. Any renders out there? Anyone know who's developing this?

The property also borders a large radio tower. I sure hope they know what they're doing 'cause if they excavate too close and that tower topples, it's gonna rain on mah hayed.

Skyhouse South gets an Ace Hardware store

Ace Hardware is opening a Midtown location.

The hardware retailer submitted a building permit application with City of Atlanta Tuesday to build out space in the new SkyHouse South apartments.
An estimated $320,000 will be spent constructing the 5,412-square-foot retail space, at 860 Juniper Street.

The Midtown Ace Hardware will most likely open as an “Ace Express.” The Ace Express, introduced in 2012, is a “new retail format that fits into 3,000 square feet or greater.”
